I kept hearing about the big buzz around that activity and wanted to try it out for myself.
I cant say Im much impressed by it, if completely disheartened by it actually.
10 different systems, roamed for 1 hour and a half in lowsec
And i got ?
1 Data site, 2 emply combat sites.
Is this a joke ?
And no its not my scanning skills nor experience in it, im maxxed out. |

That seems ridiculously low. However, during peak times, if there are even a few other explorers in your area, they will easily clean out everything in short order. People don't realize this often, but losec is actually very small. Also several different areas are used as staging grounds for people like PL. It's not as empty as you think, even when dotlan shows low jump counts.
One thing you might wnat to check: when you are entering a system, sometimes the scanner doesn't display correctly. After the "scan on entering system" graphic finishes after you load grid, uncheck and recheck the "Show Anomalies" box. |

I see, thanks for the tips.
Tbh from what i read about it I was expecting this activity to take no more than a little more of an hour per day, turns out I was flat wrong, well on to finding some other mean of casual isk...if it even exists apart from PI.... |

lowsec is small, and lowsec gurista combat plexes are the most valuable and pursued.
If you want data/relic sites (particularly relics) go to the gigantic lowsec regions around amarr or their pet empires.
Or go to nullsec, lots of wide open, mostly-empty space, and better relic/data rewards. "CCP is changing policy, and has asked that we discontinue the bonus credit program after November 7th. So until then, enjoy a super-bonus of 1B Blink Credit for each 60-day GTC you buy!"

I understand competition is high for those items, and thats why im now considering flopping all ****** lowsec and going null instead, good decision you think ? |

in null the plexes are a bit harder, and have more total npc hp to chew through. On the other hand there's a lot of space. Your success will depend on what kind of space you're in, specifically the number of other people that live there and their habits. Timezone plays a big difference as well (being australian is a distinct advantage ). You might go somewhere and have a terrible time or go somewhere else and find lots of plexes and not be bothered. Areas of sov-null that don't have many residents is a great place, areas of npc nullsec with few stations is also great. NPC nullsec with lots of stations aka syndicate you'll find lots of people trying to kill you when you're 80% of the way through an 8/10. There are days that you will spend a whole evening not finding what you are looking for, and there are days when you get what you want in the system you log into.
That's exploration for you. |

Everytime I seem to do exploring all I find are bloody wormholes which is annoying. I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to die. |

Lowsec guristas plexes are not hard to find. There's a certain pocket of lowsec space that has a dozen of them on any given day. You just gotta know where to look. |

Not to be a douche, but you've got the wrong mentality for exploration. If you're looking for iskies, it's more of a long term proposition. You can get lucky and hit big on your first spin, but in reality you're most likely gonna make it over time. If you're looking for fun, then you're going to need to find it in the hunt and search part, not as much in the find and pewpew part. 10 systems and one hour isn't even an appetizer for exploration. I've gone for days long stretches of nothing and then a series of hours where it was simply raining sites and isk. It is good to have substance to one's existence.-á But in the absence of substance, one can do much yet with style. |

I've recently been doing exploration as income on the side instead of a primary activity. The return for your time is a lot better when you're only scanning out stuff within a few jumps of home and running sites based on convenience. If you don't find anything good, you can return to your regularly scheduled activities. Running a sites and getting OPE and a crap drop is still very worthwhile if you didn't also spend 60+ minutes finding the site and traveling to it. When you're scanning out multiple constellations looking for a good sites, its almost like you're putting all your eggs and effort into one basket, one that is still vulnerable to disruption by other players.
I took this similar strategy when I was living in hisec. I didn't want to spend a lot of time searching for sites, but I did scan out my home constellation for sites and often found 3/10s and 4/10s. How on earth did it take you 1.5 hours to scan 10 systems? This post smells like bullshit. |

I suspect what he was asking is why it took so long to scan 10 systems. 9 min (on average) per system is on the high side for systems with nothing of interest in. But speed comes with practice. |
