So some pundits and lots of other people think England have a chance, and yes they do its an open competition this year, but chances are Englands great manager will stuf it up.
My prediction is that he will bring on Owen Hardgreaves who will lose Engalnd that match though his awful play, so what does evereyone else think?

ok i will say it the only reason we have "won" 1 world cup is because the other team thought hell its england and got absolutly wrecked b4 the game, face it people we suck at football.... now if we could get it back to how it was played in medieveil times...maybe we would win but only if we cheated
and was playing someone like ermm lets say the mk dons but then again what the hell would they be doing in the world cup

Highly unlikely. Only one South American team has ever won a European-hosted Mondial in nine attempts - and that team had Pele.
Odds heavily favour a European winner. That gives you England (yes, they're good, but to read the English press you'd be convinced that they're either invinvible, or utterly garbage .. neither is true)
or Germany (they reached the final in 2002 when they sucked, so the fact that they suck now won't stop them)
or Italy, or possibly France or Portugal.
My own tip is Spain, based mostly on quirks of nature. Spain always dominate the qualifying groups, winning every game and scoring a hatload of goals, then collapse in the first round. This time, they struggled to qualify, needed a playoff, and .. well, who knows.

Brzils defence is faily crappy this year, Roca Jr is continualy picked and hes awful, and their goalie is waaay out of form

I know almost nothing about football, but instead of pretending that I know anything or simply ignore this thread - which would probably have been the wise choice - I'll quote the opinion that the guys at work seems to have on english football :

I will be cheering against England all the way 
I think the riots in the World Cup are going to be worse than anything else over the previous few, just got that bad feeling somehow the German police is almost an oxymoron

Seeing as tho not many of u know a damn thing...
Lets run through as many teams i can remember..
Argentina - Tough, strong defence (sorin, soon to be fit heinze) as usual, some delightful players in attack (messi, figueroa,crespo) mdfield also contains some very creative players, although i feel this is there weak point in that there missin vital steel.
Laythun prediction - final 8
Brazil - What can i say, Absolutely wonderful attacking force, the best in the world, although they have a very shakey defence, and are still relying on thier aging but still world class wing backs and wingers ( carlos,cafu,serginho). A further point, there keeper is not having that bad a season.
Any team can get goals against them, its just stopping them from scoring more.
Laythuns Prediction - Final 4
England
Defence - Good young keeper, still imo not proven on the big european stage or international, but still an exceptional talent.
World class defence in john terry, rio ferdinand, ashley cole and gary neville (no i dont think sol should start). Young quick defence that can play on the ground as well as in the air, good passing and all proven at international and club level.
Midfield - Again on paper a fantastic if rather narrow midfield, unfortunately no 'natural'world class wingers (no Mr Beckham is NOT a winger) which could prove a problem against mobile midfields. but still very strong with lots of heart and steel along with good passing ability. (beckham, lampard, gerrard + 1 fast winger)
Attack - the jewell of england at the moment, what more can i say rooney, dafoe, owen and possibly cambell as hes young quick and full of ideas.
Laythuns Verdict - Very good defence (as long as they can concentrate) good midfield and blinding attack, but its how the manager manages all the talent is what will make or break englands hopes.
Last 8 at least.
France - Good young players coming through (clerc) but i dont see much in there defence stopping some of the other european teams, let alone the south americans attacking.
Have also been a shodow of themselves since winning the world cup (yes that long)
Laythuns Verdict - Last 16.
Germany - Some good young players coming through, but i have no real hope for them excelling in the world cup, a string of ****ty results in the past year or so has made them rethink. Although there keeper is having an outstanding season. But i think this is not there year, next world cup when there youngsters are blooded properly

Italy - Always have a chance, and most of there outstanding players are coming to the peak time in there careers (28-30). Solid defence as usual, with an array of attacking options in midfield, along with some naturally gifted passes (pirlo). Attacking force is also looking better this season, with some new strikers coming through.
Laythuns Verdict - Last 8
Japan - Dont underestimate - 2 round
Spain - Perrenial underachievers given there masses of talent in the domestic league, Good defence altho prone to mistakes, Strong defensive midfield(albelda, baraja) and gifted wingers (joaquin, vicente) with the passing excellence and technical ability of Garcia. Strikers is a no brainer - raul, torres, Villa etc

I don't get why people say England are ****, Erikson is a noob etc etc (just jumping on the media bandwagon IMO), people seem to forget that we nearly beat Brazil in quarter-finals in '02, and only lost because of a jammy goal 
If we had won that match I reckon we'd have gone on to win the whole thing.
Anyways having said that, it's Brazil all the way most likely, though a England v Germany final would be awesome (5-1 again? )
