Highly unlikely. Only one South American team has ever won a European-hosted Mondial in nine attempts - and that team had Pele.
Odds heavily favour a European winner. That gives you England (yes, they're good, but to read the English press you'd be convinced that they're either invinvible, or utterly garbage .. neither is true) or Germany (they reached the final in 2002 when they sucked, so the fact that they suck now won't stop them) or Italy, or possibly France or Portugal.
My own tip is Spain, based mostly on quirks of nature. Spain always dominate the qualifying groups, winning every game and scoring a hatload of goals, then collapse in the first round. This time, they struggled to qualify, needed a playoff, and .. well, who knows.
Sweden also has a decent chance, but I predict that they'll end up 3rd or 4th.

Who cares anyway! World Cup is just an excuse to go to the pub for 3 weeks straight. Personally as a scotsman I will be supporting the team closest to our hearts... Trinidad and Tobago! |

My tip is that it will either Germany, England, Netherlands, or Brazil.

As a norwegian, I belive England will win it. It's about time and it's been 40 years. About the home of football won it again. And they have a much stronger team now then they have had in decades. My thoughs

England still has football players? Where are they playing then? Not in the PL surely, most matches I watch, I can't spot a single Brit on the field

and Michael Owen will get a nasty scratch that puts him out for 5 games.
your wrong there, a scratch puts him out for 10-15 games. a slight headache puts him out for 5-10

Yes I believe the hapless Mr Owen is currently out for the rest of the season with a badly chipped nail. That Alan Shearer is a pansy though - he only has a torn knee ligament and can't properly walk. He needs to stop being such a girl and learn from Mighty Michael's bravery.
Nice to see the toon in with a better chance of Europe without the little scouse shortarse though. And Glenn Roeder is a fine manager.

Every time, there are at least ten teams which have a realistic chance. At least nine of them, don't win. Why are you picking out England? ________________________________________________

If we had won that match I reckon we'd have gone on to win the whole thing.
Anyways having said that, it's Brazil all the way most likely, though a England v Germany final would be awesome (5-1 again? )
Errm just so you know. Scotland nearly beat brazil in the opening game of France '98 and we only lost because of an own goal. Means nothing tbh

A very flukey own goal at that, as I recall. But then, the Scots have "being desperately unlucky in the first round of the World Cup finals" as their specialist subject on Mastermind.
Luck is a factor (what idiot allowed the '86 Maradona goal?) ... but if you're good enough, you overcome it. England haven't managed to recently; they also need to get better at taking penalties. It might help if the manager actually let them train doing so. ________________________________________________

England have two real problems, they are very inconsistent - one match play well a formation, then next match play like sunday league drunks and the second is the uk media. Too many sun readers jumping on bandwagons and all that, pity really cos we've got one of the strongest sides in the world on paper....

I don't think I could live with all the hype if England were to make it to the final 4. The media would go insane, again. We do have a fair chance though (so long as we avoid penalties...).
If I were a betting man then I would probably put some money down on the Netherlands. I just love watching them play (probably not bad odds either, heh).
