With Rubicon 1.3, deployed on March 12th, we introduce many "little" improvements which nicely improve the user experience: better handling of the directional scanner, word filter and highlighting in chat channels, additional information to the ship info window and more!
Read all about these wonderful improvements in the blog U and I - Through a Scanner Lightly from CCP karkur and CCP Merc.
Constructive feedback is most welcome in this thread. CCP Phantom - Senior Community Representative - Volunteer Manager |

I love the new word highlighting! I have a request for future tweeks though.
1) Can we have some other kind of notification for our highlight words besides a blink? Maybe the channel tab blinks green (or any different color), maybe a notification noise, maybe a little appears in front of the channel name? The problem I'm going to have is that a lot of channels I want to see when anyone talks, so I have blink always on for those channels. I would also like to know when someone says my name in those channels too though, and since they're blinking for anything, I'm likely to miss that.
2) Can we have the asterisk represent the number of characters of the word? So if I were to say "**** you", there would be 4 asterisks instead of 3, where as if I said "you ****** ******" it would have 6 asterisks for each word. I honestly don't know why the length matters, but it's going to bug me a LOT, I just feel like this is the way all other censors work. |

The wordfilter however would be even more awesome if I as a channel owner/mod could do that channel wide for everyone.
Replacing whatever word with something else rather than asterisking it...
tbh I don't really see the benefit of the asterisking since it's only on my client, unless the aim is for parents to remove certain words - since I would still know what word is behind it (sorta) so even if someone yells *** at me in channel, I know it was bad - on the other hand the channel owner replaced that bad word with 'rose' or something it calls for much more fun times when someone yells roses to everyone in the channel (and they won't know it was a bad word replaced).

The highlight/filter was very powerful in release candidate 1: You could define filters that, e.g. matched "waypoint 1", "waypoint 2", every waypoint followed by space and digits, or you could make whole lines stick out by leading and trailing *** that matched your criteria, or all words being a combination of 8 letters or digits, or everything starting with a capital X, or everything framed by capital Xs, or you could spam filter every possible spelling of 'carebear', no matter the injected extra characters or spaces, etc.
That's all gone now.

- DScan changes, best changes! Everything pales in comparison. GÖÑGÖÑGÖÑ Every single tweak there turns out very useful; mouse wheel support, clicking anywhere, auto-scan on change, etc.! So great, so very practical. And pacscan at least is hilarious.
- Neocom notification: Every. Single. Time. That's why they've been off completely since day 2 or so. Return of the notification! GÖÑ
- Cargo bars, all at one glance. Nice! GÖÑ
- Word Filtering and Highlighting: Helpful. GÖí I don't understand why you didn't see the tremendously more powerful version fit for release, but I will assume good reasons. Still makes me a little sad. So. Many. Possibilities...

It really is great to see the continued evolution of the UI. You are doing God's work and extra credit for the titular Philip K. **** reference. :)
Earlier (1.2) under-the-hood changes to the tracking camera - presumably to support the ongoing D-scan improvements - had resulted in some odd behaviour which negatively impacted on the camera's use for aesthetic and cinematic purposes (particularly any Z-axis rotation).
I note that the final paragraph of the devblog makes references to ongoing tracking camera functionality changes, could somebody (CCP Delegate Zero is aware of the specifics) confirm that those use-case issues have been resolved? i'm like the dude been using two sticks to make fire and someone just announced the lighter'll be invented soon
Also looking forwards to the new fitting tab, I've hated having to switch ships or use 'view contents' to see the fit. Since we'll soon have this tool as well as the Unified Inventory, consider getting rid of 'view contents' altogether? It'll be superflous everywhere except the assets window. |

Thanks for all these.
I'm very appreciative of the word filtering. I agree that it would be nice to be able to set filtering parameters for chat channels I own as well, that apply to all participants.
And one person's question about dragging/dropping modules in the Fitting tab makes me wonder if there's any possibility of having an in-game fitting sandbox in the near future. I think there will always be a place for out-of-game tools so you can fiddle with fits without having to run the game client (love EVE Droid on my Moto X!), but you really should be able to test fits in game without having to buy modules.
But, again, thanks much for continually improving the game. The D-scan changes will improve game play tremendously! |

Maybe we even could get SAVED filters on the wallet transactions overview? I know all PVP people shouted for a better scanner forever, but we market PVP'ers have the same problems all over...

Fitting in your Fitting tab < very nice... lets get sliders on the contracts overview (for private and corp contracts) and maybe make a nicer overview for the market tab that has the order information summery?

Bars in your cargo, great! ... but can we please have some information too on containers that we look into remotely?... like ISK amount of the inventory of such a container. Thx.

So after seeing the new ship info screen, I've become a bit inspired to ask for slightly more Feature Creep.
While we are in the mode of little things, can we take these updated Ship Info screens and interface it with 1. Cargo/Ship Scanners and 2. Fleet members for the purposes of Fleet Hangers.
1. Cargo/Ship Scanners
This seems like only a logical extension of the new functionality. It would make the workflow of scanning a ship much more humane when it would pop up a ship info window with the fittings in place, with the fitting tab and its estimated EHP, ect. If you wanted to get really ambitious, (please) allow for the ship info window to do a isk estimate on the fittings and the cargo of the ship and display it in a tidy line in the bottom right corner. Kind of like a pre-killmail of sorts.
These new info windows can also be extended to the Mining scanners and exploration sites so those who do space-violence against rocks, ice, and data containers can also enjoy these new shiny windows. (Super please include the isk estimates here)
2. Fleet Members
It seems like with the infrastructure already in place we could also expand these ship info windows to allow for fleet members to quickly figure out who has room in their fleet hanger to accept things. Or perhaps more relevant/useful by being able to view the ship maintenance bay, it would allow people reshipping mid battle to go to the appropriate capital ship to find their new ship of choice.
Please make these happen :)

Awesome work guys. These are the "little things" that we all welcome to the game. Much more user friendly. Can I ask when we shall see another little thing such as a Text Color sector below the text input box in chat windows
And also, coloured text in corp ads, details section would also be welcome. Sure these trivial and minor changes are not hard to implement ? |

I haven't read the thread just, just the devblog, so some of these may have already been said.
Quote:We also know that many of you have found it very difficult to work the linear scan-angle slider, since 5 out of the 7 scan angles occupy the first quarter of the sliderGÇÖs length (a whopping 20 pixels!). We wanted to make it easier to use, so we changed the slider so it's no longer linear. Now there are seven evenly spaced increments representing 5, 15, 30, 60, 90, 180, and 360 degrees. We also added a cute little pie chart next to it that will help you visualize the coverage of the selected scan angle. I'm sorry but this to me is a step backwards and doesn't make sense. Then again I typically only ever used 5, 90, 180 and 360 which were easily selectable.
Quote:Word Filtering and Highlighting in Chat Nice, basic feature of IRC for ages, been wanting it for ages too, any chance of having some form of variable items eg $name, or $corporation or $alliance etc etc
Quote:Changes to Notification Settings Just confirming, we can have Bounty payments not blink but have Player Donation Blink or vice versa kind of groups?
Quote:Fitting in your Fitting tab Ewwww, who did this? that looks horrid. Then again I've never used the modules tab, didn't even know it was there, if I wanted to look at what was fitted I used the Fitting Window. If I wanted information on what the specs my ship had at the moment I used the Show Info. I had never noticed the Bars on the Fitting tab either showing the amount of CPU used etc
Any chance of collapsing the Slots so that they basically just show the slots without the modules? Most of the time I don't want this information.

I love all of these changes.
That checkbox for "Use Active Overview Settings" still bothers me, though. It's a checkbox without a choice. It would be so great to be able to choose the overview setting you wanted for D-Scan and have it be a different one than the current overview.
Anyway - maybe in the summer. Love these changes, and thanks so much devs. Way to go.

To go along with this awesome new dscan, any chance of a windowed version of the map screen (for instance, to place on its own monitor so that it is accessible without starting up a loading bar) or an expanded F11 minimap where you can consistently click on the right cluster without having to be pixel-precise?
Imagine the dscanly goodness.
Imagine effectively navigating a system through a minimap instead of an overview...

All nice changes and bla...
Unfortunately the check box for activating the tracking camera is still gone in the scanner window. The place where it really belongs to instead of a radial sub-menu next to the control interface for the ship... oh pain...
I have stopped using the shortcut for the tracking camera about a day after it was introduced cause i kept activating it accidentally when i wanted to type something in a chat window. I think i will have to find another shortcut that i don't accidentally hit. Not that there are about 20 already... but you don't seem to realize that "tracking camera" and "directional scanner" should really share one interface/window.

I note the chat filters are not case-sensitive (perfect!) but want to be sure I understand how to code them. Based on the picture it looks like you list words together with a period in between them? So if I wanted to filter the words alpha beta and gamma it would be coded like the below?

Hello Little Things devs
After much praise ITT (Stockholm Syndrom?) I have to say that I find the changes in the fittings/attributes tabs are not very helpful. Instead of reading a concise numerical set of data I am now forced to switch between numerical and graphic information.
Graphs / graphics are nice. No doubt.
But there are some cases where the information to be represented is so simple that the graphic representation is more of an obstacle than a help to accessing the data. I believe this to be the case here. Why, for example, do I now have to count dots (rings) to know that a ship can handle 7 and not 6 turrets? It is not helpful.
Same goes for the resists numbers, now bars, in the attributes tab. While the color bars are shiny and nice (and they are), the information is so simple that the use of graphics is just too much and a bit odd on a page full of numerical information.
The intention is fine - to make a better interface, a better user experience. But to me it is just changes for the sake of changing, and not very clever - colors because colors is no guarantee for a better user experience.

I was browsing some ships on the Market to find something new to fly and couldn't find where they had put the turret and launcher slots information.
