I'm Caldari but love Amarr design and lasers, so have been training the Amarr/Laser skills tree. Been happy so far, Retribution/Maller/Prophecy, have setups with these I am refining but work well in several environments.
Now though get to Geddon and having real problems with layouts for PVP, as they all seem weak. I am likely to be with a small gang, but plenty of BS's solo it so want to have a Geddon setup that can if necessary)
I agree that Geddon is made for damage, so I'm trying to stick with a setup that incorporates HSII's and Tracking Enhancers to give more range\damage for the bigger hitting crystals.
With this is mind, the orthodox route involves Mega Pulses and lots of damage mods. I can't use T2 Turrets and might not take my Amarr skills that high.
Now this route leads to a high damage setup with a range of about 20-40km depending on crystals.
As a Calari ship user, I'm just sat looking at the Fittings Screen thinking 'What the hell do I do with a couple of Caracals sat out there at 60KM's?'(and thats before worrying about other BS's!). There is no way I can dictate the range in a geddon and if they had a tackler with them who gets under my turret tracking I would be in real trouble.
If I take the other route and fit Beams to give me 80KM range, then I just end-up with a whole lot of other problems in that anything that gets to 25km range and can orbit at reasonable speed is only gonna have to worry about my drones, as the Beams ain't gonna do much unless another BS. ( I don't wanna sit there scrambled by some T1 frig awaiting the arrival of the firepower!)
As you can see, I'm struggling without my missiles, but would love to stick with Amarr for while, so would like to know what other people have working for them (or not as the case my be).
I guess the ultimate question is can the Geddon actually be used for solo pvp if you're caught without your gang?

I would advise flying a turret ship before you go straight into the geddon, since turrets and missiles are very different.
The short answer to your question is yes, the geddon is a very effective solo pvp ship.

Edited by: Gronsak on 24/04/2006 17:23:49 yes, its actually pretty fun too
i do 30km faction 1point warp desrupter. 15km webber. heavy cap injecter
on top of that you can fit 7 pulse which will permit you to hit very far 40-50km very hard useing t2 ammo! and a nos in high for anti AF/HAC
you will then still have a decent tank with a large repper and good damage output
imo also take 5x t2 exp heavy drones with you and its a really nice ship!

tbh for solo i wouldnt worry about killing anything that cant scramble me
the caracal at 60k isnt as important as his inty friend

Speaking of getting scrambled, would it be worth it to fit a radar booster? Wouldn't want a blackbird and two other cruisers killing me because I can't lock them.

If you go solo, don't expect to be able to fit something to deal vs 3-4 (or more) decent pvpers ...
Caracals sitting at 60km with scrambling inties arent't your worst nightmare, I can think of many other setups where 3 relatively cheap ships will bring down a solo fitted geddon! ____________

8xLarge Named Smartbombs
3xHeavy Electrochemical Cap Booster
7xLocal Hull Conversion Reinforced Bulkheads 1xInternal Force Field Array
hull tank FTW!

whenever i travel in my arma, i always fit it for tackler busting
8x smartbombs microwarp drive + cap rechargers/injectors 8x nanofibers
you can catch that inty thats outside smartbomb range, and run back to gate if you need to. Ive done some pipe patrols that were quite successful.

Bug Kinsy for his 'geddon setup. The last time I fought him, I won with 13% structure on my raven - and if he'd fired at the same time I did, about 2 seconds earlier, then he probably would've won. That 'geddon is MEAN. -Wrayeth

Setup works ok if you have bckup to webb and the guns are prety cheap.
High: 7 dual heavy pulse laser II
Med: 1 heavy electro cap booster 1 warp disruptor 1 sensor booster II
Low: 2 large accom reps 2 energised adaptives 2 heat sink II 2 tracking enhancer II
It can take a fair bit fo damage and the trackig is prety good so you should be able to hit cruiser if they arent right on top of you.

Thanks for replies.
Got it setup with:
4xMega Pulse, 2xDual Heavy, 1 Heavy Ghoul Nos Webber, Cap Recharge, Tracking CompII Large Accom, 2xEANMII, Tracking Enhancer, 2xHSII, 2xCPR
Thought this was a reasonable starting point. Got several crystal types in the hold so have 15km-48km optimals.
BUT...tried a test run solo versus a Scorpion and couldn't do jack**** against it. If Scorp got its 100km range then there was nothing I could do but tank some damage and have to call it a draw.
Then when I got range (in next encounter) I thought great, lets see what these mega's can do, only to be ECM'd out of it when I did manage to get into optimal and then had the Scorp nossing me, and as he was quicker I couldn't get out of nos range or target back. If he had had a scrambler and it had been for real, I would probably have died.
Analysis and suggestions anyone? Is a Scorp a Geddon killer?

From what I hear about Scorps they aren't really a killer of anything. They are VERY good at forcing a draw 1 on 1 though. You'll need ECCM if you wanna take one on, but generally you don't know in advance you'll come against Scorp, so no one I know flies with ECCM on.
As for your set up, lots of things would kill it. You've only got 4 Large guns, so an Apoc would outdamage you, and damage is supposed to be Geddon's biggest strength. Use the setups people mentioned before. Although all Smartbomb ones are wierd...

If you come across a scorp make sure you get your heavy drones on him ASAP.
