This is a story. A story of courage, sacrifice, and revenge. A story of something that happened yesterday.
I myself have been in the State War Academy for a month and a half, so as one of the more experienced players, I took it upon myself to help some day old rookies when they asked for help in corp chat. A few of them had been killed claiming a few members of the corp SteelGrave were high sec pirating. Leaving cans scattered for newbies to pick up, stealing others' cans to try and get newbies to attack them, and so on.
At first I just though it was a few bored PvPers or would-be pirates making trouble, but then I heard they were flying Feroxes. Feroxes for pirating frigates and rookie ships? Sounded more like griefing or some PvPers showing off how big their e-peen was to clueless newbies. I hopped in a Scorpion and headed out to Kisogo, home of the State War Academy.
Upon arrival I quickly docked my Scorpion and went out in a Kestrel to see it for myself. They were indeed trying to provoke newbies by taking every can in site, as well as dropping items as newbie bait. One of the pilots that requested help suggested that we take out the leader first, to send a warning to the rest of the corp about high-sec pirating. So, I told the other players to let Slaughter SteelGrave, the corp leader, take their cans and flag himself.
We had one of the condors scan him and found, to our surprise that he was mounting a full stack of Warp Core Stabilizers as well as fairly weak weapons, set up for more anti-frigate work than head-on PvP. I was sort of disappointed hauling my Scorpion all the way out there to fight two experienced PvPers in Battlecruisers only to find they weren't set up for PvP at all, only griefing frigates. But I already had my Scorpion there, so I decided to proceed in any case.
After having some of the members to add extra Warp Disrupters, we proceeded to attack. A Scorpion, two Condors, and a Vexor. I bombarded Slaughter with ECM and Warp Disrupors, then let loose with heavy missiles. The Condors moved in to throw in extra Warp Disruption support and the Vexor let forth a swarm of drones.
In only a minute or two he was destroyed, Slaughter not even having an opportunity to fire back. I suppose he was shocked by the fact a newbie corporation could mount an effective counter-attack, or maybe he simply dropped his guard because he was in high sec and had a rack of Warp Core Stabilizers. Or maybe it was the rack of ECM arrays, several Warp Disruptors, Webbers, and Nos on him. In any case... victory was ours!
As soon as Slaughter's ship was destroyed and looted, his companion's Ferox decided to take flight fearing he would be next.
I know it wasn't an equal fight, an epic battle or anything like that. And I know killing the leader of a PvP corporation doesn't make us lords of PvP either. But it was still satisfying.
The morale of the story? People who use can bait to pirate newbies are not cool. Neither is using multiple Battlecruisers to kill newbie frigates and rookie ships. And beware the newbie corps. ___________________________________

good work. You got to love it when the noobs bite back. grats on the kill and helping the newbies. Nothing more pathetic then baiting newbies.

Nicely done. Don't worry about the epicness of the tale, or the encounter, you showed some griefers what happens when Karma comes calling. You also showed some newbies (who may have been wondering by that point) that there are decent folks in EVE and that the griefers are the exception, not the norm.
Well done.

Nicely done Niques. Kind of strange that the guy had a full rack of WCS though for the kind of griefing he was doing.

Ha very true. I can't remember the last time i was in empire.
Griefers deserve any punishment they get, even us pirates will provide advice/support if the target has turned out to be a decent person after an attack.

Nice one.
Although I don't understand, how you were able to kill him without being attacked by concord. I mean, if the 'griefer' places cans as bait and a newbie takes from the can, the newbie gets flagged as a 'thief' and can be killed by the griefer without any consequences. The griefer doesn't become a free-for-all target, if he kills the newbie. Or do I miss something ?

As a noob myself, I must say I'm greatful that there are people out there willing to help us learn the ropes instead of shoving them down our throats. I figure that Eve will only get better with more people, and griefing noobs just makes them cancel their accounts. Thanks for standing up for us, Niques.

well, what happened was.
Me and the other 2 nooblets (i was in a crow, 5 hour old trial) were gonna take him out as he killed another starter corp guy by doing that trick.
Seeing we were after his rifter. he got his ferox out and sat in a belt with his own cans around him wanting the other starters to pick something out of them so he could gank them.
we dropped off our crap loot near him just..cos we were bored, and he actually picked up some of it, he knew he could beat 2 condors and a vexor. This is when we asked for help, and along came niq.
we knew that as we were in the starter corp, we'd each need to get him to pick something up from our can to have him flagged, well we did, and niq did the same in his kessy i think. one of the condors scanned him, found out about all the stabs (really weird) but off niq went, got his lovely scorp, came back, and down the ferox went :)
my single small blaster made all the difference i tells ye :P

Well that certainly sucks.
Goonfleet officially frowns on that sort of behavior, but unfortunately a corp that huge can't possibly do background research on everybody.

Respect to the OP. Good job.
Oh and Firstnamelastname was in lordless with Remedial before Goonfleet even existed. He was annoying then too.
Still Reme was OK and was kind enough to take his celestis up against my Retribtuion and give me my first solo kill.
And yes in hindsight taking that same Ret up against his Domi was really f**king stupid.

I'm thinking the person in the scorp doesn't have the skills for cruise or torps yet, considering only month and a half old and in a Scorpion.
This was a great story though, good to see some folks getting the griefers.

Also, the Firsntame Lastname character was sold to another Goon. It isn't the same person behind the wheels any more.

Great story, congrats to your victory.
Though there is one thing I must say that I hope you don't take offense to.
A month and a half old Scorpion pilot packing heavies makes me, I don't know, sad. Trust me when I say you would be much more effective in a cruiser or even a battlecruiser, packing the same heavies. With these "few" skillpoints of yours, flying cruisers/battlecruisers is cheaper to lose and more effective (bigger =/= better).
Unless of course your Scorpion is for showing-off purposes --------------------

I notice a lot of comments from privateers along these lines.... "Not what REAL pirates do?" What is a real pirate? A murdering stealing criminal. Thats what a pirate is. Don't try to pretend you have any ethics. My char is going to be a bounty hunter and anti pirate...I've been playing this game for less than the trial period. What the pirates don't grasp is that attacking rookies and making this virtual reality unpleasant is an attack on the world of EVE ONLINE. The lawless should stay in lawless territory and enjoy their brand of virtual reality which will help EVE grow. As for me...I'm scared of rats. not PVPers...

Steal what? What does a newbie in an Ibis have that you're going to retire on?
I'd definitely say he's not a "real" pirate. Pirates are in it for the cash and the excitement. Baiting newbies doesn't offer either. It may be amusing to some, certainly, but wanting to be amused != pirate. ---------------- Mostly harmless. |
