I tend to name all my ships based on what I think they will achieve.
Consequently all my PvP ships are named "Explode in a fiery ball of twisted metal and self recrimination " - So far the names have been accurate. |

I name all my ships after random Magic: The Gathering cards. Literally just go to the card database, hit random, name my ship after a word on the card, usually in the name. If I get a basic land, I hit random again.
This one time I ended up calling a ship "Diversion", since I brought up Master of Diversion. It exploded quickly. Somewhat fitting. Got a bomber named "Ambush", ended up selling it before I ever used it.
Sometimes get respectable names, for instance, Omniscience. Not actually an awful name for a spaceship. Then other times, I get things like Jandor's Saddlebags. There's... really no way to get a good name out of that. |

I solo PVP in assault frigates, but mostly Ishkurs, of which I always have three ready to go, named Skylark, Sundance and Starskean. Skylark is my favourite, because it used to be the only one I'd have ready to go. When I lost it, having to fit another one would give me time to consider the loss and get over the pang of annoyance at losing the ship. When I stopped feeling that annoyance, I started always having three ready to go. Skylark is also my favourite because that particular Ishkur has over 100, almost 150 kills to only 8 losses.
For the record, Starskean is not a play on Starscream. A skean is a type of knife, or dagger, used in Ireland and Scotland.

I used to have my sleipnir named "DoomTrain" before they changed the skin.
At various times I've had a frigate with a 1200m3 cargo hold that I used to take my loot to the trade hubs and named it "Mini-Tote" while my bestower was "Lugbug" and my mammoth was named "Mr. Snuffleupagus"
Just recently sold my noctis which was my "Recycling Bin."
Most of my mission ships are synonyms or relative descriptors for their hull names like "Resolution" for my Paladin and "Affliction" for my Nightmare.
Had a pvp fit Armageddon that I put together for a war dec once and named it "Monkey Wrench."
My absolute favorite has to be the name I used for my drake which was "Its Justa FleshWound." |

My oldest non noob ship is a mackinaw I bought about a month after they were relseased. Its 'reitred' and sitting in my hanger. I named it "The Big Mac"
My WH tengu is called Dog Faced Grimlin cause it looks like it has the face of a dog and its an old pro wrestling name.
And because I was watching Black Sails on Starz, I named my Ishtar "Ranger" I'll prolly rename it to "The Ranger"
I had a Broadsword I named "The Golden Hind" after sir francis drakes ship.
My Nyx that popped in 2010 I named Pale Horse. "When death rides a pale horse"
My badgers after I lost 10 in 07 running fuel in the kari pipe I just started naming numbers. I was on 50 when I stopped (after about two months)
I had a thanatos I named Pale Horse also, but its long dead.
Nag my alt flew I named Pain Stick
I had a few lame names too, I name covert ops ships "Boo"
And my Stratios is named after a Vulcan ship, I think its the Ty'kyer but unsure atm. |

A few of my ships have names from The Culture series of books by Iain M. Banks, though many of the ship titles from those books are far too long for even EVE's roomy ship-name field. I've used the book titles a bit too, as those are shorter.

Nowadays I just have a list of poisonous plants and take a name at random of my list if I commission a new ship. |
