I think it not realy bad idea to have those. Many ppl did spoke about it. i want to introduse my idea about those ships. ------ Mining director ship or mining carier (whatever). This ship is can be simple based at FRIGTHER HULL ( 4 difret races). not be ment to haul ore out belt but will have special function to make work easyer and more fun. The speciality of this ship will be in 3 needet things while doing mining operations in any place of eve universe. 1st speciality: --------------------- ship maintance bay for storage mining barges ( lets say max space to dock 10 large barges) -------------------- 2nd spiciality: --------------------- Fitting mining gang modules in 2 given high slots ( mining foreman link for drones and lasers/ice harvesters) -------------------- 3th speciality: -------------------- completely new module for single medium slot. Lets call this module LARGE ORE PRESS.
Think not need to explaine much what this last module ment for. Simple way to press mined ore before it can be hauled by industreal ships to station/pos. With introduction new skill for ( -15% capacity per skill lvl or meaby -10% or 12%) this module we get posebility to press ore is smaler pakeges. (example : lvl 1 -100 000m¦ -> 85000m¦ lvl 2 -100 000m¦ -> 70000m¦ lvl 3 -100 000m¦ -> 65000m¦ lvl 4 -100 000m¦ -> 40000m¦ lvl 5 -100 000m¦ -> 25000m¦ ) with -10% per lvl it will be 50 000m¦ max. with 12% -> it will be 40000m3 by lvl 5. After pressing ore can be simple picked up by hauler from cargo space in the CARIER. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- P.S. The amounts of ore pressing and workspace (cargo hold ) to execute this operation i will leave to DEVS. Now bring yours idea's or vote about this ship. Meaby drones bay??? or something else?

yeah thats my point m8. This ship will only do give bonus with command modules, store ships (meaby) and very interesting specialization to PRESS ore to make a work of hauler a bit easyer!!

1 and 2 are cool.
Why not mobil refinery from cargo to corphangar? And no dronebay, so that it need a escort. Big shipcargo for 5 or 6 hulks, 2 indys and some frigs or cruiser to defeat it.

no i rather find press better you take your ore to station and refine it there, ecause it gives better yield.a inefficiant rifinery will make mining less profitable and than you need more skills to use the ship.no press is better.

3-4 bil ORE Mothership. Onboard refinary equal to a normal (not intensive) POS one, uses a jump drive, leadership bonus to mining, very few other capacities.

Devs will never add refinery to those ships ( if those evercomes) because the pos refinery just will be unusefull then. The ore press give more interesting function because it will spare hauling time and number of haulers but still will work at same way how it is now. Only in place of 50 runs in indu you will be do only about 20 ??? 25???

Not so. A POS with a normal refining array is cheaper. A POS with a intensive refining array is more efficient. What the ORE Mothership is...is mobile.
Tradeoffs. That sort of strategic tradeoff is GOOD :)

Mining mothership uses fuel when jumping. Its pilot can dock in outpost or just logoff to ensure safety.
POS: -needs fuel all the time -has very low mobility -can be destroyed
Theese diffrences make refining POS useless after introducing mobile refinery ship. And for some corporations, refinery is the main reason to maintain a POS.
Making ship-built refinery module use lots of POS fuel when refining wuld partially balance this economically, but still not strategically.
By the way;
Can't You do mining ops with current carrier? 1.load a fleet of barges and BS escort. 2.jump, deploy mining op. 3.jump back to outpost/NPC station, load fleet of industrials with maximum extenders 4.jump to mining op, fill them with ore 5.jump to otpost/NPC station, unload, refine repeat 4-5 untill bored 6.load fleet of barges and escort. 7.jump to outpost/NPC station, put fleet to sleep.

POS
- Has multiple other possible industrial uses - Protects ships - Can mount BIG guns - Is cheaper and harder to lose
It's really not one-sided.

Not agree with idea of jumpdrive modules at those ships. 1) Like i ssaid it will be based at frigther hull (they dont have jumpdrives) so it can easely use gates 2) This ship not must be limited to 0.4 systems and below, because many corporation and alainces still mine low garde minerals in Empire and that ship will be very good help to get mostly reqwared minerals like tritanium and pierite. 3) How many ppl do mine veldspar in 0.0???? Thas why those ships must be able to mine in high securety systems too.

Cyberus,
The problem with making them use gates is they'll simple be too vulnrable and slow to be of any use. And a mining capital wouldn't be tolerated in highsec Empires anyway. They can charge (charters) for POS. No equivalent way to charge for the capital, so they're not abot to let it in.
And if you're mining veldspar in Empire, you'll usually have a station in-system and not need it ANYWAY.

A refining Ship would be a nice addition. But I am against a Hangar-Bay for Large Barges. So here is what I propose:
-Hull: Freighter Chassis
-Hangar Bay limited to small Ships, like Frigates and small Barges and Exhumer. Large Barges and Exhumer would be overpowered and with this Ship, the small Mining Vessels have would have found a use in EVE.
-Refining Array. The Array less efficient than that of a POS or a Station, but still profitable.
-Jump Drive. So the Ship can be brought wherever needed.

well look at science fiction movies or books if there is mining there comes first a huge mining platform or structure.when it arrives ships go out of this structure and start to mine.so why not try this in eve,i believe eve is also science fiction right? but to make it not too overpowering just make the carrier so that it only can unload its ore in pos or in station,it will only load ore and compact but not unload. Why not a very small all-in-on POS or better a freighter sized ship that has to be anchored before it can start operating.
would be easy to configure, moveable, cheap in maintenance, not as powerful as POS's.

I personaly still favor the refining ship idea, but i think there should be limitations i would probably go with having a jump drive as this ship is realy only going to be for low sec and 0.0 if the Devs have anything to say about it . There is no real point having a ship that refines in Empire as there is usualy a station in the system you mine or close to it 1 or 2 jumps. Having said that there are many good reasons to allow the ship to use normal jump gates, it allows for easyer relocation to mining location if it is a small corp or an individule player. Like a freighter it will probably be very slow, but for as long as there are bookmarks in EVE that wont be a problem .
The refinary on the ship should be equile to a refinary array on a POS because it should. Yes i agree there should be limitations when using this on a ship, but the ship has to be worth having in the first place. For example if the refinary only give 20% of the refined ore what would be the point of spending say 1bil ISK to buy one, it doesnt give any advantage. If a corp or alliance can afford to run several POS's then maybe a refining ship wont be for them, but for small corps or alliances the just want to mine in a system in low sec once or twice a week and dont want the hassle of setting up a POS so they can refine out there, then this would be a good ship.
Now if you stick some mining lasers onit then it becomes even better, then the individule and small corps can use one and get a decent turn over in 0.0. Befor anyone says about the Mining lasers, the ship does make more sence that way at least it can contribute to the mining op and start paying for its self. Otherwise the ship should just be a ancorable structure small enough to fit inside a mining barge the way i see it . That is if the idea is to have a capital class mining and refining ship .

Edited by: Lagar on 03/05/2006 18:48:41 well i am all for a mining director ship.. giving nice bonuses to the mining gang modules.. however. Mixing the diretor with a masive ore holding ship i dont like at all..
further more.. i am also quite against Capital mining ships in general... but. i might be forgiving to the consept of a Capital ship that is able to mine a moon like the POS's miners however.
Refining-ships... no thanks. altho maybe for comet/gas mining.
unless the waste factor is enough to make it balanced

I am all for a mining Director / command ship But would want to see it without jump drives or hanger bays. I would prefer to see the press idea and not the mobile refining too. This ship should not have combat abilities but have to rely on support ships. Also the cargo space should be half that of a freighter due to the extra equipment on board. It could also have a bonus to mining forman and director skills or even give a shield bonus to all ships in the mining gang..
Plenty of food for thought in this thread for the Dev's

would need bigger asteroid belt, at the speed we empty one and pass to a other, we would lose more time in unanchoring and moving that plaform.
but if they increase roids in system or make them in region, would be a good idea.
And best thing is , in a system with no station :) anchor the platform, mine and get the mineral back with a freigther.

I think its great...
but..
if it will actual be in the game..it will be 0.4- use only, cost several billions isk and use ofcause capital components to build..so..I really cant see why we need more of these SUPER ships around that are pvp content only (yes I call all 0.4- only use items)for pvp content. People in 0.4- allrdy earn enourgh isk as the game is today. we need more items for the common player.
but I like the ideer

But this IS an item for the common player. With a ship like this a small corp like the one I'm currently in could expedite their move to 0.0 simply because we'd be able to pile pretty much everyone onboard and go mining somewhere, then jump back to .4 to get it into Empire to sell it.
Currently we WANT to mine in 0.0, but the logistics and expense make that a daunting fiscal proposition. A ship like this reduces that somewhat and let's us get out there on expeditions.

Well there is only couple of things what i want to say. 1) Like i sayd this ship must be based at frigthers hull, so no jumpdrives 2) This command ship must be defenetly nota capital ship, there is simple no sence to make capital from it. 3) Meaby idea about cargo hold for store barges is not so good one. 4) There is something must be add to this ship to make those more interesting Thats why was idea abour ore press. If those only can fit gang modules and nothing more then you just simple can use BC for it. 5) Meaby some speciality to have big drone bay to fit mining drones in it. So now lets look again what kind of ship it must be. --NO capital --2 high slot to use 2 mining modules --1 med slot to get ore press to discrase hauling work --10-15 drones capability to launch meaby?? Many ppl already says we dont need better mining ships, because we already have. What we need is mining command ship what helps a) miners, b) haulers. Thats what we need.

Cyberus,
The only use for a ship without a jump drive is to the ISK farmers. Making it a jump drive ship drastically reduces its vulrability and makes it useless to the farmers.
It makes every sense to have a mining capital. Jump drive, toughness, cost, onboard refinery...
A capital. NO onboard mining, because of the blatent abuseability of this.
This ship would be of great help to all the serious mining corps without helping the farmers. Which are the two important points.

Maya go do some research about macro's. Read some forums and other things , what for bot;s they use and all. Macro mining is not so simple how you think about and here is some exemple's why they will dont use that ship. 1st To creete a bot for gang mining with more task's then simple mining or jet can mining what usely macro's use will be not so easy. 2nd thing is that mining gang modules is only intersting stuff when you have around 10 pilots in gang ( haulers not count). My question is did you ever seen 10 marcro's in belt? 3) Operating mining command ship will be completely something difrent then mining in barges thats what will make difficult to creete bot to function with other ships in belt, + there is much more things. Exemple: a)How those bot's will seperate normal ore from already pressed ore if both in same cargo bay of ship. b)The activation of press module will be manual by dragging unpressed ore in the module and activation, so next problem for those bot's. c) Barges will be linked to the cargo bay of command ship so they can drop ore from they bays in the cargo bay of command ship and the pilot of the commad ship will the stack ore manualy in his cargo. With other words there is to much things what can have a role to make those ships not interesting for macro's at all.
