path to a Covetor? I'm talking race and everything. I'm new and looking to start off with mining to the point where I have the best Hoover machine out there.
I'm hoping that some experienced miner would have a plan laid out that I can follow with a reasonable chance at success. Race, skills, ships and equipment to get me to that point quickest.
I figure if mining goes fast enough that the kids will want to do that as a chore =)

I'm too lazy to calculate it but I've got something to say about this thought. IMHO mining with strip miners is faster but less interesting than with lasers. With lasers you get feedback once every minute, with strip miners once every three. Less feedback means you have to entertain yourself for longer. Longer cycles mean that if you're mining small roids you can lose time, because with the amount mined in a minute you could have depleted it, but you spent three.
And then you'll need someone with an industrial to bring the minerals home.
Other than that good luck with the mining kids.

Cool I'll keep that in mind. Thanks.

Obviously the fastest path is training straight for it. I believe it requires Mining 4, Astrogeology 5, and Mining Barge 5. It takes roughly 2 to 2.5 months to do without learning skills. With Adv. learning skills to 4 it would take between 1 and 1.5 months. ___________________________ |

If you are training for a miner it means you have lots of patience. Test your patience by training up the learining skills and adv learining skills up to 4.
It is best if you enter the game with frig 4 from the start.(I think this is possible with any race/bloodline)
After this, go directly for it as an above poster said.
You may need some capacitor skills after all this, in order to activate all the lasers at once and keep the cap a little bit. also you may want to fit other things, like afterburner, small armor repairer and so on and keep them all working.

Cool thanks for the advice. I'll start a new toon up just for mining and get his learning skills started. Will his training continue even if he isn't the active toon?

Nope, you can only train 1 character per ACCOUNT at a time. So while your alt was training for covetor your main wouldn't be able to train at all.
Most people get a second account for this sort of thing, so that both accounts can be training at the same time. One to mine, one to haul. -- Lil Miner |

well that stucks..... mmmm well I'll have to figure something out. What about if you let an account expire while you are training something that takes many days, will it continue to train? Can you still get mail while your account is expired?

You don't need any previous skills in Spaceship Command in order to train Mining Barge. So it would be quicker just to try and get Industry, Mining or Science up to Level 4 on start-up.

Edited by: Mitsunari Sanada on 27/04/2006 16:28:46 One of the better options I think to jump start that might be Caldari->Achura->Inventor
Then go down Science and Trade Institute->Science->Applied Science->Astrogeology
That will give you Science 4, Mining 2, Astrogeology 1 leaving you to study up 2 more levels in mining, 2 more in Astrogeology, and 5 in industry to get to learning the mining barge. Plus you will have a good intelligence base stat to help you along the way.
There are definitely options as far as what you want to start with for skills and race to help ease the learn time some.
Though the best advice to always give is play what you think will be fun. Sure, you may not get as much of a headstart, but it's only some time to pickup the skills you need anyways :)
