Is there a little backstory, however fan-fictional, to this particular fight - who is bombarding what planet on the left, are the gallente around (clearly a Naglfar sploding in the distance, and lots of cal/amarr on the right), that sort of thing?

It is in the near future. Amarr, Caldari and Minmaturds are present (was going to have gallente as well but time contraints). Basically, the Minmatar are invading an Amarr system. They are bombarding the moon and planet.
Caldari are just there because they are overpowdered.

I've ballparked a maximum figure around 100 hours although i'm not sure. I've been working on this in my spare time. I actually started this back in December but then i went on holiday for 2months ..really started drilling on it this week after putting aside ebil bf2

Give an idea of what is going on/what action should be written about and a maximum word count for entries. The prize would be being chosen as the 'official' back story for the image.

I used photoshop. I haven't checked how many layers it is since most of the layers are embedded in layer sets. I would imagine around 700layers tho

The working res was 5400x2636 It's not something that was rendered so any upsizing will result in a loss of quality.
Currently dealing with CCP about possible distribution so hopefully we can get some prints rolling out SoonÖ

If you had the original file, you could print as many copies as you wish. Just wait for the one coming to the EO store, it should be on some fancy paper made out of carbon nano-tubes...or trees.
