There have been a few forum threads wondering about the state of Tranquility, when to expect a new patch, and just how many resources have been taken from TQ and dedicated to getting Serenity deployed. Mephysto answers these questions, gives a peek into his normal working day and even mentions one of the bugs he was working on.
Read more in the Dev Blog and enjoy.

Get the feeling being ignored?
Heh, oh I dunno, POSes still not working correctly a year after first reports, new snags regarding carrier builds, and of course the piddly stuff about the Sarum, Tetrimon, emperor and president thingie.
Nope, no ignoring going on, we are swimmingly fine!

Nice blog to read, but nothing really interesting or new (at least for me). Mephysto, can you give us at least a list of bugs, which should be resolved with the new bugfix-patch?
Kieron, where are the blogs from Oveur? I really like to know what¦s up with Kali!

So we lose out on content whilst our subs go towards the development of a server we can't use and will offer nothing to our game play.
No sign of bug fix patch, no sign of new content and no sign of Kali Expansion.
I can hardly wait for the China server to be up and running, like I give a ***t.
Am i the only to see yet more "promises" being broken by CCP.

If you also couple it with a donation to the devs' beer fund, your bug is likely to go to the top of the list. -Wrayeth

ammm.. I read that dev blog 3 times and couldn't find the answers to those questions, the only answer that had anything to do with TQ was "more on that at a later date."
Anyway keep up the good work, you might get to us in time.

Wrong. We have released more new content in the past 6 months than we did in the preceeding year with RMR and Bloodlines. Kali will be even larger than RMR and Blood combined.
As for adding nothing to your gameplay, keep in mind that Optic is licensing EVE, and the proceeds from that licensing agreement will be pumped back into EVE in the form of more Devs/staff, more GMs, more equipment, and yes, even more content.
Quote: No sign of bug fix patch, no sign of new content and no sign of Kali Expansion.
I believe Mephysto mentioned the return of Singularity and the testing of patches there. Expect a TQ patch to be deployed to TQ within the next 2 weeks. Kali and all the included content will be coming in the next few months. This has been stated numerous times before on the forums.

I can hardly wait for Serenity to be up and running. The licensing agreement will pump more money into CCP and EVE's development. That is something worth giving a s#@t about.

also, if you don't mind me asking: how does the amount of cash serenity will bring in (projected, its obviously not certain yet) compare to the amount from TQ?
edit: also, how different will serenity be from TQ? will the universes be identical? or will there be changes to certain areas? (gallente f/ex)

Yes, we have already started to do so, including bringing in a new person for HR. The jobs page will see more listings in the very near future. I know at this moment, we are going through applications for GMs and Content Devs.
Quote: also, if you don't mind me asking: how does the amount of cash serenity will bring in (projected, its obviously not certain yet) compare to the amount from TQ?
I don't have those projections and am not authorized to share that information, even if I did have it.

The static data will be identical. Once Serenity goes live, that is where divergence begins and the Chinese community takes control.

OK, that makes sense. I kinda doubted that info would be available, but it was worth a try.

I was hoping for a completely different universe for Serenity instead of just a translation of Tranquility with the Amarr, Caldari, etc backstories, just to have the two be unique. Like after the first Eve gate collapsed a second one opened near Earth, so colonists went through that one. But oopsies, that gate collapsed soon after too!
Oh well.

i was reading the chinesr forums with google translator and one of the threads was going on about "the new station models/cosmetics" did they get some new station models with a more asian apearance?
also how in most of the l4 deadspace complex missions as soon as you launch drones every spawn aggroes onto the drones and then your ship is that intended or a bug? i dont see how anyone could possibly tank a whole room and it seems to be pretty crappy for people who fly the domi if its intended. theres a thread about it here http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=317347 but no dev seem to read the mission forum anymore.

hmmm will this chinese server be getting all the expansions in one bringing them up to date with Tranquility in both story and features available or will they recieve the cold war RMR etc expansions periodically.
if they recieve everyting at once it will be interesting to see how that effects the way the community will develope knowledge is power.... guard it well |

POS = broken
Capital ships (besides dreads) = broken
Force reacon Ships = broken
Drones/Fighters = Broken
Advanced Drone Interface = uhmm yea it will overpowered Moros.. so it's taking a year to come up with solution (here's one.. make it carrier mod only..wow problem solved, can i have a job now?)
Gang Modules for Mining = broken...
should i go on or we get the point
Most of these problems are over SIX MONTH OLD if not a YEAR!!

Secondly on a more personal note (since this is a personal devblog): What education did you get to become what you are today? I'm looking at trying to get into the gaming industry but we all know the chances of that happening are very slim so by getting the best education and some experience I should increase my chances.

around 9am- stagger into the office, grab a mug of tea (coffee for those non-English heathens around here...), and skim over the forums for latest issues, rumours and conspiracy theories. around 9:30am- get a second mug of tea, and check through the defects submitted overnight by the bughunters. around 10am- grab a 3rd mug of tea now that the brain has started working, start testing on whichever of the 6 test servers is currently running and also happens to be up to date. This can last anything from 5 minutes to an hour or so depending on how soon a problem is found. around 11:30- start investigating some strange bug (overview settings and the overview not displaying any text today). 12:15- much annoyance for missing the first round of lunch, back to working on the bug while waiting for the next round of food. break for lunch. 1pm- start testing on the next patch/server combo until it breaks. When it does break, switch to tq. somewhere between 2 and 3pm: stable build of the day, start running a sanity check on it (yes, those things I mentioned last time that take up to 6 hours). 5-7pm- decide I cant take anymore today, login briefly for skill training changes, go home and drink a beer or 3. Licensing means that a company will pay a certain amount of income to the parent company so that their able to use the game content and its engine and also be able to advertise for it, for example ragnarok is originally a asian released game but a us company bought the rights for it that means they can publish the game, provide support etc but they need to pay certain amount of income to the parent company to keep using it.

No such thing as a concrete deadline in the gaming world. They make one, it gets pushed back... etc. etc. I'm sure if they KNEW WHEN it would all be fixed they would tell us, but they more than obviously don't know. Let them get up what they need to get up, and that's when the magic will happen. More Devs, more resources period, and you'll see your bugs get fixed.

I was really hoping that the Serenity universe would be different from the TQ universe we all know and love. This way, at some future point perhaps the two universes could be connected, essentially doubling the physical size of the eve universe.
Come on, you know you still have the random system map / name generators.

Amen this is what does my head in - CCP go making all new content so the "Game doesnt turn stale" - im sorry mates but if you want to keep that hot freshness going - how about giving us stuff that works....
I mean as a POS owner its doing my skull to whatever end knowing that I cant rely on its bonuses because they are non existant.
Why can i not remotely checkup on my POS? Basic usability enhancements is what is needed and bugfixes on EXISTING issues rather than creating new ones.
I got my fluffy new carrier to find out DAMN I cant check their status when someone else is flying them.
I find out that my drones WONT MWD back to me and thus I have to warp without them when im being retarded or I have to wait for them to catch up or HELL even fly towards them.
Jesus I know your customer orientated but stop trying to pack too many new features in and LISTEN to the community - WE WANT FIXES NOT NEW FEATURES AT THIS MINUTE....

Hey quick question for you Dev's. Can we all have something free for Eve's 3rd B-Day. Like a Faction BS of our choosing? You only get it for once account though and you have to have been in-game for 2 years or more. You only get this option after you hit your 2 year mark in Eve. You can even add something to the side of the ship like 2 years and counting.
They did that in a game I use to play Motor City Online at your 1 year mark they gave away a Suped up car which was nice.
Can't wait till Test server is back up

Do you really want to be a code slave? Think hard about this. It might be fun to code, but to do it every day of your life?
Also, i would say contacts is the most important thing when it comes to getting a good job and a nice career. Ive seen lots of people that are bad programmers get good jobs because they have so many contacts and friends they can use.

Apparently some people didn't read the part about all of the development work (bug fixes, content, etc.) in Serenity being applied to Tranquility. Tranquility and Serenity will have the same content & code, so anything that gets changed for "go live" on Serenity will get changed on Tranquility.
Quote: # 1pm- start testing on the next patch/server combo until it breaks. When it does break, switch to tq.
all this means is that the test environment is down, so the devs may as well enjoy the fruits of their labor... Lucky gits have the only job in the world where they can play EVE at work & not get canned for it. Forum: A place where ideas come to prove their worth.

You know, as i read the dev blogs and the future they want to implement into eve upgrade to keep people happy. I see the same pattern every where, people complain about the current content and dev defend there position about that.
But if people complain about bug, shouldn't be better to put much more people on the current RMR version of eve to really iron out all the problems (we know there always will be) that RMR or even other updates to make things work?
But i do understand the new content need to be there to satisfy the customer, me included loves the new content, but i would honestly prefer to be able to get RMR 99% working correctly then to have Kali comming soon and have another RMR style bug into the server and have Eve more often offline then online.
I have been playing since september 2004, and some more then me, when i read that there are still bug over 3 years now and we get eve new content at the same time, i get ****ed off a little bit.
But i know, you at CCP, work on the bugs and all, but before getting a new patch, wouldn`t be possible to iron eve at the moment?
Yesterday i almost lost a cruiser from one of my alt, because the damn drones decided to attack it?
I still have to wait for my drones to catch me, impressive when a BS does 165m/s and drones suppose to go much faster.
I know the bug is known and reported but where is the update to correct the problem? i remember a time where drones we`re working much better then this.
and finally, the dev blog don`t say much and i bet we had an idea of what the guys we`re doing. Even if humor is there, i don't give a rats A** about how much coffee you drink or even beer, that ain't pertinent info about the game. _______________________ Recruting

Argh! I forget to add that I'm a fluent eve-o forum troll and I have actually played EVE and griefed people there (I think its huge plus if your pie-rat or griefer ingame).

Correct to a point. Serenity will get the latest version of the Tranquility code, and all CCP attention will be focused on Tranquility code, not the reverse.
It has been stated numerous times that CCP's primary focus will be Tranquility.
Regarding the TQ mirror on Sisi, there has been a database issue preventing a complete duplication. The db is being looked at and should be updated in the coming days.

Much <3 for the info
Time to get the laptop's SISI client updated then.
Am I correct in assuming that a hot-fix applied to TQ will automatically and quickly get applied to Serenity? ______________________

Quote: I'm pretty sure you get in trouble when you attempt to bypass the word filter...
/sorry, just had to say it!
Actually you don't. I've seen a complaint thread about the n4zi filter where a CCP rep basically said "so bypass the filter then".
Quote: I'm not able to find binding deadlines for anything.
Only a dumb developer gives themselves binding deadlines for an MMO. It's like shooting yourself in the foot. Anything and everything could and will go wrong.
Quote: No such thing as a concrete deadline in the gaming world.

Quote: Well since your checking the overview.. can you fix the Gang overview problem aswell then. And dont tell me to fill in a bug report because i have done several times now.
It's probably on their list right now. Along with 1000 other issues.

I'm looking at trying to get into the gaming industry but we all know the chances of that happening are very slim so by getting the best education and some experience I should increase my chances.
You'd be surprised. Do some pretty animations in 3dsMax and EA will snap you up. If you think I'm not serious, they've actually offered me a job doing it but I don't have the time with my Games Programming course. Once I get out of university I'm basically guarenteed a job ^_^
Tis nice to see a realistic blog instead of marketing balls, but no-one appreciates that... I know myself from first hand experience. Keep up the good work guys, you're doing all you can and I sympathise, this is exactly that the stuff that drove me out of the industry for a couple of years...
Ironing out problems is all very well, except ironing out problems is 100000x harder than making new content and tbh... usually the content makes more people happy than fixing the bugs. They're working on the bugs... it's simply a matter of how long that times. It might take over a year to find a bug whilst adding new battleship stats to the database takes 3 seconds! Even if they put 300 programmers on that bug and got one programmer to add a day's worth of content, the content programmer would be done before the people ironing out the bugs! -----

Tee or coffee and conspiracy theories at breakfast to warm up the brain and bug hunting afterwards. Sounds not so bad. Ok, guess I'd need more than half an hour, because I'd write a new conspiracy theory myself each morning before I'd begin to work. ___________________________ ! Post under construction ! |
