It seems everyone wants to scoot to the biggest ship they can get as fast as they can. My question is if a person wanted to STAY in frigates could they and still mission run?> Is it possible for a Punisher to do a level 2 mission and perhaps an assault do a level 3?

IDK bout the punisher but an AF can easily run lvl IIIs.

Don't know about Punisher, but you can run even lvl4 missions in Enyo. -------------------------

The smallest frig can do any lvl 1 mission. (Slasher for me) Though you will lose a few learning...
Some lvl 2 missions are doable in a frig, they are all doable with a destroyer with good skills... (For me a Thrasher) Though you will lose a few trying...
An AF will do 99% of lvl 3's... they prevail where battle cruisers get chewed up!

All flying a cruiser did for me was wish I could untrain the skill...

I did a lvl3 mission in a Incursus once, but it is close and i probably was lucky. But if you know there will be cruiseres only it can work.

Have run three level 2 missions in a Punisher, two of them where combat missions. No trouble in any of them. The natural tank of the Punisher with a bit of tweaking is very tough. Use the speed of the ship and short range weapons, the targets have a hard time tracking you. I have yet to fall below 50% armor in a mission. ===============================================

My punisher can handle all lvl 2's, but I hit for 60 dmg per gun so things normally die before they can really hurt me. As for an AF doing lvl 3's, hell yes. Retribution for lvl 3 missions ;)

I use my Retribution on Level 3 missions and the missions are "very" easy for the most part. Everynow and then I get a corpmate to help; because some of the L3's are extreamly annoying when they jam my radar. Right now at this time, I can tank an L3 better in my Retribution than my Prophecy.

I was bored of doing lvl 2 and 3 missions in my Harpy (to raise my standings ...), the lvl 3s are almost too easy, and the lvl 2s are a sleepwalk, so I went back to some ships I hadn't used in more than a year ...
I did a bunch of missions in a Condor, dusted off my Heron for another bunch of missions, and finally used my Griffin ...
I had a few problems with the missions with a lot of cruisers, mainly the "Murderer Brought to Justice" ... those 3 Mallers that launch Heavy EM missiles are a bit too much for a lowly Tier-2, Tech 1 frigate ... but apart from that, I've stormed trough something like 50 missions without breaking a sweat ...
Of course, I still have my skills, but still ... with a bit of tactics and the adequate skills, you can do lvl 1 and 2 missions in T1 frigs without problems, maybe some lvl 3 (I haven't tried yet ...), and with an AF the lvl 3s are a breeze ...

When Helene Troi mentioned "An AF will do 99% of lvl 3's... they prevail where battle cruisers get chewed up!"
what does AF mean? Is thar Amarr Frigate? I cannot find a ship type that is short for "AF"....
I am starting L2 missions with my Amarr Frigate (Punisher); I picked an Internal Security agent that is supposed to give out high ratio of kill missions. I find it challenging to do L2 missions with my current setup - most kill missions are hitting the Armor now (used to just tank at Shield for L1) and the Armor Repairer is definitely working hard for L2 missions. When I got to my 5th Kill mission (Technological Secrets Part 1 of 3), I was killed as I was clearly outnumbered and outpowered.
My setup at that time:- HIGH: Medium Anode Pulse Particle Stream I Medium Modal Pulse Laser I Medium Modal Pulse Laser I E5 Prototype Energy Vampire MID: Eutectic I Capacitor Charge Cold-gas I Arcjet Thrusters LOW: Mark I Diagnostic System Power Diagnostic System I Mark I CPR Small 'Accommodation' Vestment Reconstructor I
Based on my current skills, this setup has max'd almost max out the powergrid available, while there's still some CPU left.
At one point, I was advised to switch the guns to those consume less PG (Dual Afocal/Modal/Anode Pulse), and swap the Power Diag Systems with Membranes for better tanking. (I could not use Hardeners, as I didnt have the right skills yet). However, that did not help, and I got fried.
Used to read on forum saying both L1/L2 missions are a breeze for Punisher... based on the few missions that I have just completed, I tend to disagree with that... and I am now saving up and training up to go for a Cruiser (Maller - DuraMaller, yum yum)

AF = Assault Frigates.
I think the game calls them "Assault Ships", those are the Tech 2 frigates with the resistance bonuses ...
Skills do a world of difference, I can do lvl 2 missions in a lowly Condor, but it's fitted with T2 for almost everything (still working on Rockets spec ...) and I have maxed cap and shield tanking skills, and Caldari Frigate 5 ...

I use my Enyo for L3 missions, and I don't have any problems with any of them now. I can tell you that the difference between not having T2 rails and Surgical Strike and having them is night and day. I find myself beating missions with ease that I was unable to even touch before. ----------------- [ The Coreli Corporation Mainframe ]

The main reason people upgrade is for additional firepower. In a raven you can launch 6 missile batteries and 5 drones at a mission while sitting back and relaxing and everything dies. It takes more active participation in smaller ships.

Punisher 4tw!
I've soloed l2 easily in Punishers and Cormorants. Just to see if it was possible. Answer : yes, extremely possible and easier than I thought. L4s, though, man, just sounds a little too implausible unless you fight an NPC faction without missiles. Fighting guristas in a frigate is a little too dodgy imo. The sig radius doesn't make up for the fact that no matter what, the BS&cruisers will hit you every time.
Krav ===== Close encounter of the Hijack kind? I say its all a myth. Or an elaborate conspiracy. Else I would have seen it happen by now. Or maybe that's what I'm supposed to think... |

To answer the OP, yes, it's actually possible to do ANY L2 missions in a T1 frigate. A few of these missions are quite hard thou, and I been able to finish them only in a Rifter or Punisher. TBH I'm using only my Rifter these days, and it's a lot of fun on L2. Cruisers are from the lower classes mostly, but even the Pithum Nullifiers (moa) are easy prey when you got under gun range. Just don't give up, and try various fittings. Doing L2's in cruisers are bloody boring.
Rifter FTW

Ya, Ive never had a problem (ie had to warp out) with a BC in the hardest of lv 3 missions.

Really? What exactly did u do? Orbiting a BS at 4km/s and smoking weed? U will not even get close to break the tank of a BS. Even with an AF it takes ages and u will run out of ammo before half of a spawn is killed.
If u tried to be ironic, then I missed the irony.
