Hi Citizens of Eve!
As an aspiring enterpreneur in Eve i have decided to run a small lottery so that normal folks like you and me could stand a chance to win small riches :) by taking part in a lottery.
The idea of this lottery is to hopefully help not so rich players in Eve get rich faster by using the old method of chance.
"Small Riches" Lottery Procedure
Note, as this will not be a lottery of huge proportions, here is how the lottery would run.
There will be 45 numbers which would be issued to interested players on a randomly-chosen basis. Each number would cost you 3,500,000 ISK.
The Lottery-Number-Issue Procedure would be as follows:
1) Send the 3,500,000 ISK to Fley Allstar (My character for handling the Small Riches Lottery) and at the same time, EveMail Fley Allstar about your interest to take part in the lottery and notify Fley that the isk has been sent. After verification that the isk has been received, a number would be issued to you randomly from 1 to 45 via Evemail.
2) Every Week on Monday at 11:00 Evetime, a winning number would be drawn from 1-45. This winning number is taken off a lottery website from my local area (Singapore) and is not under the control of any Eve Players. The relevant URL is HERE.
In real life 6 numbers and an additional number would be picked for the lottery. However, for the purposes of the "Small Riches" lottery, the relevant number which determines the winner of the lottery would be the ADDITIONAL NUMBER in the draw. The Draw No. which concerns this coming "Small Riches" lottery would be Draw No. 2116, on 8 May 2006.
3) I will update this thread and future threads on a daily basis and will reflect the names of the players who has purchased and has been assigned a number.
Lottery Restrictions:
-Each Player can only purchase one number. Multiple purchases will NOT be entertained.
-Deadline for purchasing numbers will be 09:00 Every Monday
-The "Small Riches" Lottery will NOT run unless at least 30 numbers has been bought. (Isks will be returned to players if Lottery does not take place)
Lottery Prizes
Grand Prize for Upcoming "Small Riches Lottery" : 100,000,000 isk
Why You Should Chance This Draw:
-The chances of winning this lottery are not astronomical and you stand a 1 in 45 chance of winning 100,000,000 isk EVERY WEEK!
-With the 100,000,000 isk you could buy your dream battleship (that shiny Apocalyse, cool-looking Tempest, ass-kicking Raven or that mega-sized Megathron!)
Take your chances! Who knows by next week you could have your dreamship sitting right there in your hangar!
Miscellaneous
-Evemail or Convo Fley Allstar ingame if you have any inquiries, or just post it here :)
-If there are no winners for the lottery 80% of the grand prize amount would be snowballed to the next lottery (i.e. the grand prize of the next "Small Riches Lottery" would be 180,000,000 isk!)
Disclaimers
-Note: There is only 45 numbers up for grabs on a first-come-first-served basis. If all the numbers have been taken further purchases will not be accepted and any sent isks returned. Please keep a lookout on this thread for the number of places left.
-After your number has been assigned, the isks will not be returned unless there is cause to do so. Requests like "I suddenly need the isks" and "I do not want to take part anymore" will NOT be entertained.

Sounds a good idea, I like the idea of a real life controlled winning number.
Also, what kind of insurance is there so that we can be sure it's not a scam?

As i am still relatively new to Eve, i do not really know of any insurance against scamming, but rest assured that all i wish to do is to provide a chance for youngsters to win some isks... the earliest earnings are the hardest haha :)
I would of course take into consideration any suggestions posted in this thread, as i hope to be able to carry on with weekly "Small Riches" Lotteries. :)

In the case that should i be uncontactable in game, you can post your desired number or ask for a random no. in this thread and wire the isk ingame, once the isk has been verified to be received, the number list in this thread will be updated accordingly.

Yeah just looked at that and he makes between 5 and 50 mil (ish) profit a week from this. Nothing major, about half a day's worth of npcing at best. Good idea keeping it low, makes people more willing to have a pop.
If this gets off the ground I'll probably buy a ticket every week or so just for ****s and giggles :)

While it is true that i do earn a small profit from this lottery venture, plz do understand i can't possibly run this lottery at a loss.:) But to keep true to the primary aim of the Small Riches Lottery to benefit the not-so-wealthy players with the better than normal chances (1 in 45) to win 100 million isks with an investment of 3.5 million isks, i tried to keep wadever profits i might earn low. As smallgreenblur has pointed out my profits would range from anything like 2 million isks (if the lottery breaks even) to 50ish million isks (if the lottery is bought out, which is pretty unlikely unless popularity picks up) :)
Still i understand that for a month-old player who can earn 4-5million a day, taking your chances of investing about half a day's earnings to try for 100 million isks which is equivalent to something like 20 days' worth of earnings is a worthwhile investment. And so do encourage them to take part :)

After listening to advice of other players in corp channels and forums alike for close to 7 days, and after discussion with a more experienced player, i have decided to implement the changes below in order to make the "Small Riches" Lottery more attractive and player-oriented towards Eve Players. :)

2 Main Changes
--------------
-The date of the lottery has been EXTENDED from an ambitious weekly draw to a more modest bi-weekly draw. This decision was after discussion with another player who suggested that one week for Eve players to sign up for this lottery might be a little too short and recommended that 2 weeks would be a more appropriate time-frame. The relevant date and draw changes have been reflected in the first post in the forums.
-Each Eve player now can purchase a maximum of 4 numbers (yes! 4 numbers!), up from the restricted 1 number per player. Several players have complained that buying only one number would make the lottery being extremely hard to win (and i thought 1-in-45 chance was good :( ) and would also delay sales of the numbers until such that the lottery would not have enough players to take part, and ultimately would be declared void. To help the Lottery to hopefully be able to run smoothly every 2 weeks (with the minimum 32/45 numbers purchased), each Eve player now can purchase up to 4 numbers. The relevant information has been updated as well in the first post in the forums.

Then again, of the many lotteries I've seen, this one looks particularly solid, especially the bit about using RL lottery numbers to pick the winner.

Yay i have considered lowering the number price, but in doing so the grand prize of 100 million isks would not really be achievable, and the grand prize was the main motivation of this lottery, as this lottery was meant to give newer players the chance to own a battleship in a shorter period of time, and most T1 Battleships in Eve would cost about 100 million isks.
However i appreciate your suggestion that i should open up more tickets to compensate for lowering the price, and i would surely take that into consideration if this lottery fails to take off for the first season.

you do realize that that 47mil something ISK you make a month if the lottery sells out throws off the entire lottery, right? Because you take that much off the top, the chance/investment ratio drops like a rock. You simply cant take that much off, because it makes the 3.5mil ISK one might put into the lottery not worth the potential 100mil ISK from a 2.22% chance of winning it.
You should drop the ticket price to 2.5mil ISK per ticket to make the chance worth the investment. That'd put the total pot (if sold out) to 112.5mil ISK, and with the grand prize and the extra 10mil, would work out nicely.

Hi Rajon Kelper,
While it is true to say that *should* the lottery sell out, i would be able to reap 47.5 million isks in profit, the reason why i set the price at 3.5 million is not because of profit reasons.
Since i am running on a timeframe, and also due to the high possibility of *not* selling out like hot cakes (due to many people who are scam-paranoid), i projected that with luck only 50% of the available numbers would be sold out within the timeframe of a month. This is after studying the other lotteries around which offer great items as grand prizes. Those lotteries are *still* running after like 2 months in the forum, waiting to be sold out so the lottery can take place. For people who support those lotteries, the wait would be like infinite and no hint of when will they see their prize (assuming that they even win). Meanwhile their isks rest in the hands of another person who's doing god-knows-what with their isks(just a thot, no slander intended).
So with the projection of only a possible 50% of all 45 numbers to be sold, and the main motive of the Small RichesÖ Lottery, which is to provide the winner with the grand prize of 100 million isks, i have set a minimum of 32 numbers to be sold so that the Lottery would not run at a loss to myself. (32 x 3.5million = 112 million isks). For the first season itself, to promote the Small RichesÖ Lottery as a reliable and scam-free lottery series, i have lowered the minimum number of numbers sold for the Lottery to run to be 25/45, which would actually incur me a loss (25 x 3.5 = 87.5 million isks), as i understand the need for the Small RichesÖ Lottery to have a good basic reputation.
The main motive of the price of the numbers and minimum number to be sold is all purely so that Eve players who support the Lottery can see their winnings in a month guranteed (or all their isks returned without any obligations if the Lottery fails to get the minimum number of participants).
Besides i have plans for Small RichesÖ Lottery to include other prizes should i reap any profits from it being sold-out (which i tink unlikely to be sold out), so that supporters of the RichesÖ series of Lotteries can also benefit in the long-run.
One last thing to add, profits is not exactly what i set out to do, please understand that i purely want to make this Lottery fun for Eve players and at the same time not make a loss while providing this Lottery service. 47.5 million isks can be earned in half a day ratting in 0.0 space (ask the veterans) and if i am interested in isks alone i would not have bothered to do this Lottery, and instead concentrating on ratting.
Hopefully my explanation thus far has sated any insatisfactions which you have observed.. Thanks for your comments Rajon i really appreciate it, as i hope to improve the RichesÖ series of Lotteries in the long-run, and players' input is always impt :)

For those who are still in doubt, the closing date for purchasing numbers is 5 June 2006, 0900hrs Evetime.
The Lottery would be declared void or "Live" once this time has passed.
If anyone has any qns about the Lottery, dun hesitate to evemail or convo me in Eve.
