I am a bit new to Eve, and was considering trying the destroyer tree, as a cheap quick way to contribute to the fleet while learning the ropes. Is this tree worth taking compared to BC/command chip or inty/assault frigate?
BTW, search seems to be broken. If there is a prior post, I couldn't find it.

The only tree that can tackle a Titan or Mothership? Depends on how much value you put into that.

Lol, I think that if I stumble into one of those, I am doing something wrong.

interdictor only shine in 0.0, kind of not worth flying consider you have to go through all those training if you live in empire.

Interdictors have a few bugs atm, but in time those will be fixed and they will be valuable assets in any respectable fleet op.

Nothing surprises an enemy fleet more than an interdictor warping into the middle of them, followed by your fleet warping in 20km away (or 6km ).
Anyway, interdictors aren't really that good for anything other than fleets or camping... so if you dont do either of those, dont waste your time. ---

destroyers bite, interdictors are amazing tools but not a ship youll fly full-time. if you want to get an interdictor then i suggest you train for interceptors or battleships first so you have a full-time ship, and then worry about getting into the specialized stuff.

destroyers and interdictors seem like the most useful career path for new PvP'ers. They are extremely useful in combat, and require comparatively few skills.
And they are fun!

In a nutshell, yes, its worth it if you plan to zip around in 0.0.
'Dictors are fun, 'nuff said.

Interdictors are death traps. Don't fly one around unless you're independently wealthy or your ship is giving you a steady supply of them. --- Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail. - Emerson |

except the interdictor scrambles itself, so you only need to be webbed or outnumbered (generally either will get you killed)
destroyers are ok as a cheap frig... I don't really see them having amazing uses in pvp due to their paifully low hitpoints but they could be good damage dealers in frig gangs I figure
interditors are 0.0 ships, training to fly one in empire is pointless
if you're interested in them, you can go the frigate path, grab inties, covops, assault ships, and interdictors... the good thing about this is that it takes relatively few skills to branch out to other races (level 5 frig, level 3 racial weapon as a bare minimum), so it's easier to diversify than if you go for battlecruisers or battleships

That is the big knock i keep hearing about destroyers, they are brittle and have an almost cruiser sized sig. I was thinking about training it for a cheap ship the fly around in with the rest of the corp if we go to attack gatecampers, or in a corp war as part of a fleet.

for PvE, I have a blast in the interdictor. as soon as your tanks get the attention of the hostile rats, charge in and double web, target paint, and shred them with a million rockets.
The flycatcher does more damage than the interceptors and has more mid-slots for webbing and such.
Just wish it had 1 more low slot to have 2 T2 BCS.

Yeh having an interdictor for a 0.0 raid or camp is very useful. We use them from time to time and it's nice with our small wolfpacks of hacs and t2 frigs because we can focus less on scrampower and use those slots for EW, allowing us to take on bigger fleets. Also the fact it's a free-podkill if you drop a bubble on your victim(s) makes it all the more worthwhile.
But if you are going to be spending the majority of your time in empire or in empire wars, don't bother.

Tech 1 Destroyers are just fine in groups if you know how to handle them. Easy to replace as well.
