Strange memories on this nervous night in 6VDT-H. Six months later? Eight? It seems like a lifetime, or at least a Main EraGÇöthe kind of peak that never comes again. Fountain and Delve in mid-late-2013 was a very special time and place to be a part of. Maybe it meant something. Maybe not, in the long run . . . but no explanation, no mix of words or killboards or memories can touch that sense of knowing that you were there and alive in that corner of time and the eve universe. Whatever it meant. . . .
History is hard to know, because of all the hired bullshit, but even without being sure of GÇ£historyGÇ¥ it seems entirely reasonable to think that every now and then the energy of a whole alliance comes to a head in a long fine flash, for reasons that nobody really understands at the timeGÇöand which never explain, in retrospect, what actually happened.
My central memory of that time seems to hang on one or five or maybe forty nightsGÇöor very early mornings GÇö when I left hi-sec half-crazy and, instead of going home. . . booming through the warp tunnel at the lights of Delve and Fountain, not quite sure which gate to take when I got to the other end . . . but being absolutely certain that no matter which way I went I would come to a place where people were just as high and wild as I was: No doubt at all about that. . . .
There was madness in any direction, at any hour. If not in Delve, then Fountain or Pure Blind. . . . You could strike sparks anywhere. There was a fantastic universal sense that whatever we were doing was right, that we were winning. . . .
And that, I think, was the handleGÇöthat sense of inevitable victory over the forces of Old and Evil. Not in any mean or military sense; we didnGÇÖt need that. Our energy would simply prevail. There was no point in fightingGÇöon our side or theirs. We had all the momentum; we were riding the crest of a high and beautiful wave. . . .
So now, less than one year later, you can go to a fare planet in 6VDT-H and look West, and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high-water markGÇöthat place where the wave finally broke and rolled back. |

TEST can be summarised as a group of people who redefined the term "sperg". They completely disproved the theory that quantity is a quality all of its own. |

TEST alliance baited Goonswarm into attacking Fountain and putting our cards on the table. At that point they realised their unholy counterplan; N3 and PL were TEST allies! Some people called this the last mistake of the Mittani, because as he lead us into ruin, we excommunicated him.
TEST/N3PL pushed us right back out of Fountain, and BL./401k counter-attacks in the north meant we were losing moons and space fast. Eventually we shed a lot of sov, and then, in August, VFK itself fell to TEST alliance. As a result of this concerted effort, PL only came second in the alliance tournament, because to actually win would require the full 2000 man alliance to have spent the previous 30 days on SiSi / duality preparing. When N3 needed to be in two different places in the same week, they realised that a cynosural field was instrumental in being able to move across the galaxy and back. Goonswarm were spinning hard, with Weaselior predicting TEST would be broke in very short order. He was proven wrong, and it taking 2-3 weeks for a reimburement request was actually completely normal. After all, they were smart people and nationalized their moon income, preventing a single director from selling them to himself for peanuts. The stunning victory is often placed at the feet of TEST's logistics team, who avoided the temptation to steal courier contracts and kept the front lines well oiled.
I might need to fact-check a couple of things in the above, but I read about all this on Reddit at the time, and they all had lots of upvotes, so I assume that is how it all eventually panned out. "Do not touch anything unnecessarily. Beware of pretty girls in dance halls and parks who may be spies, as well as bicycles, revolvers, uniforms, arms, dead horses, and men lying on roads -- they are not there accidentally." -Soviet infantry manual, issued in the 1930 |

Serene Repose wrote:The OP may as well have asked, "Who was BoB and how did they fall?" There would be the ascension (using the word loosely) of Goonwaffle, invention of TEST Alliance, Please Ignore, along with a handful of other one-hit wonders of the time. The last chapter would then be "How Did All The Rentals Appear?" Just before that chapter we could sing "Where Have All The Russians Gone?" The story has all the drama of plate tectonics, including two notable earthquakes complete with tsunamis.

Imagine you go out to a restaurant, and you have some chicken.
Imagine that you think "Oh wow, that chicken looks rather pink, is it ok to eat?" and then your friend who is eating the beef says "Of course it is friend, I suggest you eat it". So you sit there and tell everyone you're going to eat the chicken, then think about it some more, then finally decide to try and eat the chicken.
It goes down well enough but later that night there is a pain in your stomach and you spend the next 3 days retching over the toilet bowl.
Well that is what sort of happened to Test. I hope that's clear for you. "If an injury has to be done to a man it should be so severe that his vengeance need not be feared." - Niccolo Machiavelli |

So I asked my corp what it meant, and they told me that TEST was once a large alliance. They used to hang out with a group that used to play EVE called Goonswarm. They are both long gone now. -á-á- remove the cloaked from local; free intel is the real problem, not-á "afk" cloaking-á-

TEST were these guys in comms that made things unbearable as a newbie in January 2012. When I asked who these shitlords were, there was apologia abound. "widot or [CFC member here] is worse", and that might be true (still), but I didn't know any of these alliances, except that TEST ****-posting came in numbers, and fiercely. It took a while for this toxicity and resentment to trickle upwards on both sides. The only good excuse I've heard is "we thought they were cute once. I'm sorry."
I think maybe the cards were on the table when the CFC pushed for the Cultural Revolution as a joke and TEST moreso than others started pearl-clutching hard and wrote unironic prose and poetry on their God given right to use the N-word on mumble.
By the time the reset came I think everyone realized that people weren't saying "reset TEST" as a cutesy catchphrase, but was an unironic call to be given carte blanche to shoot them.
And then we went to war, and their allies of convenience got bored, left, and they promptly died, ushering in a golden age for the CFC. |
