Who were they? After we destroyed a gate camp there were some people typing in local:: "TEST is BEST" So I asked my corp what it meant, and they told me that TEST was once a large alliance.

I think maybe the cards were on the table when the CFC pushed for the Cultural Revolution as a joke and TEST moreso than others started pearl-clutching hard and wrote unironic prose and poetry on their God given right to use the N-word on mumble. By the time the reset came I think everyone realized that people weren't saying "reset TEST" as a cutesy catchphrase, but was an unironic call to be given carte blanche to shoot them. And then we went to war, and their allies of convenience got bored, left, and they promptly died, ushering in a golden age for the CFC.

No that's pretty true. I mean I don't blame Montolio for what he did at all, I mean if we had maintained the status quo both sides were at threat really. If we sided with the CFC then we could have staged out of half of Fountain, bringing large chunks of it under our supercap umbrella. If we sided with the HBC then they could have staged out of Cloud Ring and launched a blitz krieg style invasion into the heart of CFC space. I honestly think Montolio liked us, the problem is I feel he fell for the oldest trick in the book in the way that whoever tried to make us pick was the one who would lose us as an ally. The Mittani was happy for us to stay neutral, probably because he knew putting friends in a diplomatically awkward situation isn't going to help things. In the end, Mo'Chuisle suggested we cede half of Fountain to Test in order to avoid war, because we definitely were not in the mood to be a flimsy causus beli ("EXE wont give Fountain back! To arms!). If I was Montolio I'd have probably done something similar though, I mean he was confident of success at the time, forcing a 1000 man alliance to leave your coalition of 38,000 people was a good trade to start hostilities.
