This is Microsoft SQL we're talking about here people. Are you sure a 29 day training time is sufficent?

Originally by: damicatz The hardware is more than capable. That's not the issue. It's SQL Server 2005. It's notoriously buggy, bloated and difficult to migrate to.
Originally by: kieron As Oveur stated in the news item, the hardware went through rigorous internal testing before being sent to the server facilities in London. I forsee another deployment like the earlier hardware upgrade, rather than the deployment we faced with the Bloodlines update. However, train a skill that will complete training no earlier than 8 hours after the estimated return to service, just to be safe.
I can't for the life of me see why the are still sticking to the Microsoft platform, even IF its what they are experienced in using
MS SQL is built on the oooold Sybase stuff (Sybase 4 IIRC) they bought over back then. MS SQL is rubbish. The company I worked for did large scale deployments of our systems, and we did implementations for clients using MS SQL, MySQL and Oracle. Guess which of those three were a pain in the ass.
We did a GSM SMSC implementation for a major cellphone network (had tens of millions of subscribers) in the far east using MySQL and cheap (relative to the SUN Microsystems servers we usually used) PCs running Linux, including SS7 hardware devices.

I've had BC 5 training the past week, but there's a good 22 days left on it. Should be fine.
Now, if I could actually get in the game, I'd be annoyed with the extended downtime. But I seem to have picked a good time to have my comp break down
Currently grounded; someone pk'd my HD. |

8 hours past the estimated time? Umm... this time it didn't go quite that well. When I checked at approx 6.00 eve the morning after (9 hours after esimated end of downtime), it was still down...
Maybe next time you should recommend minimum 48 hour skills :)
