Edited by: Dethusan on 06/05/2006 06:11:35 Edited by: Dethusan on 06/05/2006 06:10:55 New to the game kind of confused how this works. i cant see myself pvping with a group for a while so i more or less need info on 1v1 situations. Now Im confused at to whether this is a bigger=Better type of game. Im currently in a merlin with 2x125mm coil rail guns and 2x standard lauchers for weapons and i am going to upgrade to a caracal when i can train it and have better missile skills trained. but could i theoretically stop at the cruiser and still be viable in pvp? or would i have to upgrade to say a BS or a HAC or a BC?
Im also very interested in the crow and the Manticore and what they are good at. I really enjoy being in a fast ship as such these 2 intrique me.
Any info is greatly appreciated. In fact even as a more general statement is there ships that are good to solo pve and pvp or how would those situations go.
(not sure if this is the right forum for this question but worth a shot :))

Edited by: lollerskates on 06/05/2006 06:13:38 it depends what your going to try to kill, if your using a cruiser you will probobly not be able to kill a lot of stuff bigger than you, but if you upgrade you can attack a larger range of stuff.
as for the interceptor, you might have fun in that. you can take cruisers out with interceptors if you play your cards right, because if your fast enough there isn't much that can hit you.
not to mention if you find a battleship with all mining lasers you might be able to kill it solo, that's always fun.

New to the game and want to PvP, simple get youtrself into an interceptor (crow) asap. I think the most fun job in a fleet battle or small roaming group is scouting and tackling.
Besides 2 inty's can take out a BS in certain situations.
If you want to get into PvP, you can never start too early, get yourself into a pirate corp, you will start at the bottom, but even a kestrel can be a good tackler. So you really can be PvP'ing in the first week of playing the game, it is all about finding the right people to go hunting with.
for 1 vs 1 situations, you wont really have decent enough skills to compete for quite a few months, but EVE is multiplayer, so get some mates and go roaming together.
Cheers Cam

Just because you don't see yourself PvPing with a group doesn't mean you're going to be in a lot of 1v1s. More than likely it just means that you'll get ganked by groups, especially if you are in a bigger ship.
What your question should really be... Is what should I fly for solo PvP?
And in this case bigger most definitely isn't better.
The goal for solo PvP is to be able to pick your battles and run if you're gonna get ganked. Big ships are too slow to do this.
The best solo PvP ships are T1 frigs, T1 cruisers, and Interceptors. Hacs are good too, if you can afford to lose them.
I have no experience with stealth bombers, but I'd assume you can be pretty selective in your targets, so long as you have the patience.
Crow would be an excellent starting PvP ship for you. Even before that I'd reccommend going out and PvPing in kestrels to get the hang of things.

AC Tempest (minmatar BS) will most likly always win aginst a AC Rupture (minmatar cruiser) Arty Tempest will do the same aginst a Arty Rupture
But a AC rupture will have a good chans aginst a Arty Tempest and will probobly win that one if he can break the tank of the bigger ship. You dont need much to break the tank on normal Arty Tempest :P
So as you can see bigger is better most of the time but... The bigger ship is so ******* slow that you will not be able to run from almost any fight you know you will loose. The small ship has a great chans to run from those battles.
If you ever find yourself in a bs fleetbattle you will not be to happy if you are sitting in a t1 cruiser but for any other job a cruiser will do a great job. (I use t1 cruiser from time to time in fleetbattles) For fleetbattles, interdictors, incerceptor and cov ops will do a good job and they are not big ships.
BS are great but you dont need one If you dont want one. I dont like using BS, they are to ****** slow. But I do use one from time to time. I have 5 tempest atm waiting to get blown up :P
Dont use BC for PvP if you dont have lots of skills. They are know to be noob ships and if you dont have the skills to use one you will get killed and killed and killed :P The ship is to slow to use befor you know what you are doning in PvP, like the BS you will not have the time to run when using a BC. IMHO.
HACs. They are good ships but 200m?!!? NO. IMHO the only HAC that is good for 200m is the vagabond and thats just becouse its is the only HAC that can do something no other ship can do that cost far less.
BTW if you are going to be in a group almost any ship will work, low skills or not. For solo dont use expensive ships if you dont have all relevant skills at lvl 4< or know alot about PvP. (or have more isk then you need)
Remember that PvP is has very little to do about statistics... play around and find that perfect ship for you and you will make it a good ship. Dont read the forum and see all the FOTM topics and go out and train for them, you will only end up able to use lots of ships badly and not a singel one good.
So If you dont want a big ship dont get one. Almost any ship will work in PvP but no ship will work all the time. Just find targets that you can kill using the ship you are using at the time. Higher skills for that ship = more targets.

Generally, in 1vs1 the bigger, more heavily armed and armoured ship that cost more and takes more skills to use wins. Not allways tho. Domi>More expensive and skill-intensive BSs that do more damage. But if you want to solo BSs in a frigate, it can't really be done. Get 10 frigates to help. They cost less tha 1 BS and are able to kill it. No... your the one with the crap. lollerskates hit the nail on the head and I'd listen to anything she says in the context of pvp any day.

Well in solo PvP, if you want to fight cruisers, get in a cruiser.
Run away from the battleships, chase the cruisers and lower.
If you're in a battleship, the cruisers will run away from you. Etc.

Actually, in many cases, the t2 ship one ship class below is better.
So assault BC > BS. HAC vs BS (2 classes apart) tends to be pretty even.
You get a similar situation with cruisers and AFs - unless the cruiser is fitted for pure anti-frig.

i would go vexor, 3 sentry drones = insane damage output for a cruiser. the web / scramble / nossing setup you will use means that with 1 stab you should be able to get outa most situations you cannot handle. You'll also be able to take out a LOT of ships, including some bc's. Give you a nice solid skill base to go into dominix's, ishkur's and ishtar's as well.

HACs can kill non-nos BS.
Cruisers can kill BC (noobs)
Manticore, only good at killing miners / haulers / Ceptors
Ceptors can kill LOADS if you are well skilled and lucky.

nope, solo pvp requires lots of running away, this isn't eaisly accomplished in a big ship. The most common solo pvp ships are intercepters. --------------------------------------------- I hear Linux can cure cancer and raise your sperm count. - Dionysus Davinci
