We need a new kind of transport ship. The step up from industrial or transport ship to freighter is a very steep one, not in skills but in practicality.
There is a missing step between the transport ships and the freighters. I suggest that a new shiptype is implemented, the logistics transport. Logistics transports have a cargo hold of 120km3, no slots and a base cost of 150M isk. They can pick up and drop off cargo in space like a normal industrial ship, but are a lot more sluggish. Their mass and agility should be halfway between a freighter and a transport ship.
The main purpose of this ship would be POS logistics in 0.0 and low sec space and combat logistics for capital ships. There is a need for a ship that can move large amounts of materials from a POS to a station and vice versa. I would suggest that the ship BPO was sold by Interbus as an adaptation of the standard Interbus freighters. ___________________________________

Transports are specialized Industrials. Afaik, there is no need for the introduction of a new "middle weight" hauling ship, what they need to do it make freighters beeing able to drop stuff in the POS. Also the making of the new ship would cause every single person to start doing lvl4 hauling missions, as the volumes that are required hauling are close to the numbers you are saying. _____________________________

I don't think adding that ship would be a good idea. However, adding a "Freighter Loading Interface" module for starbases that would allow freighters t be loaded and unloaded at starbases might be a good idea. ---------------------- (\_/) (O.o) (> <) This is Bunny. An industrial that can haul a packaged battleship with a jump drive = /signed.
A bigger transport ship probably gets my vote too, but with rather less enthusiasm. |

Sure, after I get my Death Star with 8/8/8 slots, bonus to all modules in the game, 8 trillion powergrid and 5 gazillion CPU. Of course it has a built time of 10 seconds, costs 5 tritanium and comes with a full set of modules.
Hauler with jump drive = BAD idea, even worse than putting a 200k m3 hauler ingame. You are just passing all the choke points. _____________________________

As I said, theres a missing tier between the transports and the freighters. Preventing their use in hauling missions is easy, just disallow non-freightcontainer cans like in a freighter. ___________________________________

You made thsi same post a few months ago, and I completely agreed.
Something around 50-75 km/3 would be great. Anything more and you really start killing the logistics side of this game. ---------------------------------------- Friends Forever

Amarr Dreadnaught can get a little over 40,000m3 of cargo...You can bet we use them for hauling, completely bypassing any and all gatecamps that might be along the pipe. ;)

Yup, and the carriers can carry quite a lot too, while they jump much further than a dread.
Problem is that the hauler is a hauler. Most people with alts will train for the jumping hauler, as it will require something less or more of a freighter, that are dead easy to train for on an alt anyway.
I don't think that people have trained carriers for using them as haulers, have they ? _____________________________
