we all know that eve clients will balloon ram usage over 400MB if left on for awhile, and minimizing then maximizing fixes that. but here something else i've noticed.
i run two clients almost all the time, if they stay on for like 15-16 hours or so my systems page file usage hits about 1.5GB(normally is 0 or very close to it, even with 2 clients running) and the eve clients runs horribly slow (thrashing the disk like crazy). within 1-2 minutes of closing the clients the page file usage heads right back down to almost 0.
just an interesting thing i noticed, anyone else noticed the same?

As your RAM useage grows (and Free RAM drops), Windows will swap out memory pages it doesn't consider active to the pagefile, freeing up RAM. Now I don't agree with Windows' policy on that (it seems to greatly prefer the disk cache over applications you may have used like 10 seconds ago :(), but thats how it works.
This is perfectley normal.

Just an fyi, but using the cedega emulation under linux running EVE, I keep an overlay showing ram/swap and frame rate running.
The eve client uses about 320- 375 meg on load, and then slowly leaks...about 50-100 megabytes an hour or so. The leakage occurs under session change. Just sitting in a station, I see no real change, but undocking, jumping through gates, redocking, all 'take' a little more than is freed up.
I've got 2 gig ram, and linux doesn't use the paging file like windows, so I can really see the client sucking ram. When it gets to about 850meg, the client begins to lose framerate and have issues...hitching and stuttering. It hasn't crashed so far, but it is interesting to see this 'leak' in action.

It would appear that someone in the CCP dev department is forgetting to free up pointers when they are done using them.

oh i understand how virtual memory works....the interesting thing here is that each client reports that its using say 400MB in the task manager window..if i minimize the window and then maximize usage drops to 130MB or so...
completely seperate from this is the page file usage...i.e. even after each client is minimized and maximized the page file still grows, worst i've seen it get is 750MB per client of page file usage, and this is with the task manager reporting only 130MB used per client executable.
it seems to me there is a leak somewhere in gui code(that can be cleared with a minimize-maximize) and in the python code(i assume the additional pagefile usage is coming from there, tho i don't have any expirience with the language).
anyone having more expirience with python have any thoughts on this?

my clients use less than 200mb each
~300mb for 3 clients
about 4 hours running all up on the screen at 1024x768 res in window

THIS IS SEPERATE FROM WHAT THE TASK MANAGER SAYS FOR MEMORY USAGE
sorry but third time i've had to say this...
if you watch the pagefile usage when using eve you will see it grow ALOT....and this memory being used is NOT listed in the task manager next to the eve exe.
