If I am in a good mood I'll sometimes I let newbies go. It also depends on how they react to their ship's death. Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective. |

I though pods getting away was a feature of EvE?

The guy seemed really lost and i was honestly curious what he was doing in such a rinky-dink fit gnossis dozens of jumps from home with passive targetting system In 0.0.
Apparently he got lost in a wh and finally got out in the wrong system after a run in with some very nasty rats. |

Umm, good for you? I sort of expected quite of few of these types of responses, but I was hoping for something more interesting to come from a CSM.
Let me be clear. I could care less if people like podding others or not, I've just noted that its the norm. I thought it would be interesting to hear if anyone doesn't, what reasons they might have. one notes that the number is low. A lesson for new players, don't expect mercy or quarter in New Eden. Few people understand the psycology of a highway traffic cop. Your average speeder will panic and immediately pull over to the side. This is wrong. It arouses contempt in the cop heart. Make the bastard chase you. He will follow. |

I have spared some old acquaintances on occasion as an act of courtesy. Funny character and ship names and respectful local chat can be a deciding factor, either way.
Other times I am just a mean SOB and will just keep cycling my guns regardless.
You know something, this game tends to bring out the best and worst of me. |

A response from the other side: my pod was recently spared because I challenged a WT to a 1v1 frigate fight and they didn't want to give me the free trip back to my med station once I lost. |

Because there's more of a chance that "home" is somewhere far away as opposed to the very system you just let them go in... |

Rookies get a pass (on the pod only)
As do wayward pods in WH's..... most times.
In LS, I am willing to take a sec hit for aggression, not so much for a pod kill. |

Precentor Saggitus wrote:This other thread just seems to confirm that the general consensus among the EVE population is to pop pods as a matter of course. https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=334351&find=unreadIt occurs to me that people sparing pods, is incredibly unusual in the game, for whatever reasons. The question would be, if you have spared a pod, for reasons outside the immediately tactical, why did you do it? My experience is that no one in EVE honors ransoms anymore, there used to be a small chance, but now the tendency is that it is much more esteemed that one also extorts some ISK before reneging on any ransom negotiations, and a ransom demand is again a matter of course when one party thinks it can extort more. I've yet to encounter anyone who's busy trying to build a reputation as an "honorable" pirate. So has anyone actually honored a ransom, at least recently? If so, what compells you to do so? Are there any stories of anyone being purposely spared for other purposes? Someone mentioned political reasons in the other thread, not needing to be too specific, what are the stories behind those reasons? To me, this question is far more interesting than the standard responses the other thread has generated. Small instances of emergent gameplay if you will, given the rarity of its occurence.
I spared a iteron 5 tonight, because what does the game actually benefit from this guy dying? He is a WH player, I want to encourage his activity, no deny it just for the sake thereof.
as is i taxed him 5mil, he paid, got away. easy as that. LP store weapon cost rebalance |
