Edited by: Dr Zam on 09/05/2006 08:31:21 Heya and hello my fellow EVE'rs.
My name is Ezra. LetÆs talk about something very near and dear to me. In the last couple of weeks I have been listening to all of the talk about Tier 3 BS's and Tier 2 BC's. I have seen the concept art (so little of it I am amazed btw) and although some of it is nice, a good portion of it just does not feel right. Now, instead of complaining or insulting the artists already outstanding art I am going to be a bit more constructive. The beauty of this situation is that I myself am a concept artist by career choice AND and EVE lover. I have decided to do something for you, my community, as there is not much else I can contribute. For the next 4 weeks I will be selecting one race a week and creating designs for each specific raceÆs Tier 3 and Tier 2 new ships as well as mother ships and carriers. I know some of you will hate the work, some of you will love the work, and some of you could care less. Feel free to say as you wish I will not take offence, I hear as bad as you could imagine from my clients so I donÆt get frazzled about criticism.
This is where the fun really begins. I am going to label and tag each of the ships that I put up. If you would like you may post which ship is your favorite though please only choose two. At the end of the week (Friday) I will select the two most popular pieces and VOILA I will draw them in some nice perspective and render them out and toss them with a little color. And the reason for this is? Well because I have the next 5 weeks off between jobs, I love drawing spaceships, and since I am not currently making any money out of game I will see how I can pilfer some money in an unorthodox way for in game :P. All of the images I create are for the community and you can feel free to show them to whomever you wish, just do me a favor and let people know it was ôthat guyö named Ezra or his toon ôKobeiö that dossied em up
Ok all I look forward to getting your feedback and seeing this fun little experiment through.
*ahem* and if you like the work and would like to help a starving artist out I am always willing to accept donations to ôKobeiö in game if everyone likes this game then I am TOTALLY down to keep this up as a weekly thing
Ok all, IÆm out.

Now to pre-face this I tossed this into photoshop real quick right before I posted this thread and colored her up with a mouse :P. Im not going to worry about this one as its simply an example of what I mean by "render out". This specific design in fact was one of my least favorites, it looks to much like the Vexor and to Amarrian *shrug* but it serves to show my intent :)

Ok all, get to posting.

Nice piccies.
Although in your last pic, the scale is a little off for a battlecruiser - its more frigate sized in that pic.

Yknow I was wondering about that. I cant seem to find any reference as to size of crew for ships. *shrug* But I guess thats what this is all about, learning and designing. The fun part about my job is I can just redraw what needs to be redrawn and learn at the same time :).
I appreciate the compliments people but toss some ideas out, what would you change? Do any of them peak your interest? Could you see yourself driving any of them? Do they miss the mark? He he I want info :P

All of them look OK, but in my opinion they all share about the same look. Some are wider, some are taller, but they all have a common look about them.
I dont think they are as good as the concept art, but its not very fair of me to compare drawings with raytraced pictures. --- The Eve Wiki Project |

*chuckle* aye aye though I lay no claim as to being better than the technical art offered thus far, more the designs behind the pieces shown. The Gallente Battleship just feels horrible as does the Minmitar. The technical work is outstanding and I give a kudos to the artists. But as a designer my job is to evaluate aesthetically what elements peak to viewers interests and how to make them better. Thus the feedback and the fun :). Thanks for the tip on linking the URL btw, he he much nicer to use now.

1) love the drawings, very nice.
I'd say my opinion... the one that catches my eye the most is GS-01, keeps some of the megathron feel, but also very different. I don't see it as a teir 2 BC, and I think its too similar to the thron to be a teir 3 BS. but its very cool.
GS-03(especially looking at it from that angle view) would make a VERY nice hypothetical intermediate industrial ship between the Itty5/transport ships and the obelisk.
GS9 and GS10, I could handle as the Tier 2 BC very well. I like the strong whale-feeling on those. though they kinda look a little amarrian though, which I don't like so much.
GS9... ehhh, too strong on the amarr-ish feel, without enough whale-feel, I don't see that really fitting much of anywhere.
the GS-render one... I like the look. ... but not for a tier 2 BC. thats what I'd imagine like... a tech 3 or 4 Vexor looking like though. VERY clearly derived from the same origin, but signifigantly changed as well.
though I get the feeling your scale is WAY off, at least with the way its presented, I think thats almost frigate-scale, in fact I think at the scale you drew it with the little guy it would fit more as an ishkur replacement, (which IMO would be ok, an ultra-mini vexor could work with that style too)
my PERSONAL hope is that the Tier 2 BC will be more along the lines of a mini-thanatos. that large but flat sorta style... but if I couldn't have that, I'd be plenty pleased with the whale-ish styles you have on 8 and 10.
I don't have much of a opinion for a teir 3 BS... I don't mind what the official guy has for it. hard to tell without a angle view like the others though... but I don't think any of yours really fits the feel of it either.
I BELIVE this is the accurate pre-titan scale diagram....

*nod nod* I just found a posting on ship sizes, oy, I am WAAAAY off *chuckle* but fun nonetheless to draw. Tommorrow I will be adding more pics and redesigning the ships I placed up> I see that I am going to have to come with quality work in here :) it is a good thing. Keeps me sharp, these were lazy and halfassed and now I might bit sheepish lol. Ah well, keeps me humble. Thanks for the in depth feedback, you had some really good points about the design aspect on the latter few ships.

Yes the BC with the human reference is far too small, sadly the only clue we have to the size of a ship is its volume characteristic. Just for fun I did some math to figure out the size of a rifter, wanting to know just how large...ish it would be in real life and found that a poor aproximation would leave it at about the hight of a 3 story building, I say a poor aproximation as I was calculating it based on a solid block, not the actual design wich has alot of empty space in it.
As for the designs... they are really nice drawings and most would definently fit in the eve universe however to me they seem a tad to similar to already existing ships, If new ships are implemented I hope they will be radically different to the existing ones, but thats my opinion.
Keep upp the good work and I look forward to seeing more pictures.

Holy crap. Those are good, what'd happen if you spent like... more than an eternity on one picture?
Go work for CCP man, bring the Caldari ships that look good! (Ones on par with the Tier 3 BS!)

GS08 struck my fancy. Shorten it just a tad(5-10%) in length and add a 'fluke' downward-turned on the ends. I know you end up with something extremely 'Sperm Whale'ish, but they're damned fine creatures. I'd fly one as a T2 BattleCruiser. I'd like to see more "carapace" for Amarr. For Caldari, I'd love to see a design inspired by the Cold War B52s/TU152s...big long wing, big long fuselage...LOTS OF GUNS. can I play with the cute mouse...can I? |

the frigates are about the size of a 747, so your battlecruiser design compared to the dude standing next to him, is about the size of a frigate. Otherwise, they all look like great gallente designs (of the odd blood ships) -----------------

Very nice looking ships. Some of them remind me of the Opus luxury yacht by the style you used.
Can we see some Amarr-styled ships next? ___________________

Awsome feedback from everyone, thank you all. I am going to redesign the origional 10 ships tonight to accomodate for size and shape corrections and post them up after recieving your comments and critiques. The beauty of these drawings is they take about 5 minutes each and the rendered about 10 :P Its quick and fun, just a way to push allot fo ideas out very fast (sometimes very bad ideas*chuckle*)Ill have more up tonight. As far as the progression foes I am planning Gallente/Minmitar/Amarr/Caldari. Aight all, thanks again.
