Edited by: Eternal Fury on 09/05/2006 16:00:40 I really like GS 8. It seems to have mass to it. But it might be too similar to the Caldari T3 BS. I think the ships in Eve need something on them that helps to trick the eye into showing size. For example on small ships, like a frigate, you usually see a viewport/window where the*****pit would be. But on a BS for example this window would be tiny. So maybe haveing a whole series of tiny pin***** sized lights on the sides would denote the BS's crew cabins?
And guns/turrents. I REALLY wish they were rendered in a different way. the Guns as they are just look cartooney. I mean, if this was REAL space, you would see a semicirular blister, that rotates and had a gun in the middle of it tracking up/down.
Not these guns we see now that have these huge arms under them. Heres an example of the guns as they are now. Gun Blisters are the best way I can descibe the way they should look.
As for a Battship with say Cruise Missle launchers or torpedo launchers, they should have rows of missle tubes on the side of the ships.
For AC's, we should see the Gun Blister again, but with some sort of Gatling type muzzle on them, that rotates, and belches flame when they light off.
For Arties, we should see some nice long gun barrels. Think of the Deck Guns on current wet Navy battleships. Big long barrels that track and elevate to follow the enemy. Belching HUGH LONG toungues of flame, with the barrel recoiling from the power..
Drones should see some sort of Clamshell door popping open and the drones being droped out of the ship.

Very nice work Ezra.
I really like GS-01, really looks like its ready to spit out a ton of drones.. Yarrr!
Looking foward to see more from you.. And btw.. Remember.. Symetrical is good!! Even though some people in CCP dont think so.
Symetrical with a little asymetrical is even better.. but only a little.. -------------

I suppose that will look nice, although the ships in game never shows any missile launchers, all the missions come out of the center of the ship, quite funny really.

yes to: 1, 4, 8, 9, 10 - but the others + bc felt to "vexor-ish", ya know? =)

I LIKE!
I really enjoyed how you took the line cues from underwater animals or subs for Gallente. It made them interesting, organic, and that je ne c'est pas that says "I am Gallente and am here to eat your lunch!".
Very nice work.

Although it's looking sweet, it's frigate sized for Eve standards

Wow these are really good! Thanks for taking the time and sharing
Oh, and @ Eternal Fury, I never realised how much I hated the 'stalks' until you mentioned it... Good idea for an alternative too. I'd imagine they'd scale up to be more battleship size (like alot of people are asking for, me included ) alot easier then the arm mounted ones also.

Hate to be a critic, but none of them appeal to me as is. The thing that grates at me is how all the ships cater to gravity. They're all drawn as if "down" was meaningful.
Specifically: * the exaggerated arch in the spine is detracting. * having a lot of mass off-center (down) such as the prow in GS-07, the tail in GS-08 * having an obvious bridge/cockpit * GS-09 looks like a old caddy with a big steel body * GS-10 looks like a mini-submersible (it looks buoyant) * in most of the designs, the engines do not appear to push against the center of mass
Having said all that, GS-10 would look really good if there was a 2nd prow on top (move the top tube thing to the center, shorten the bottom prow and add a balancing top one.) It looks a bit like a Gamelon ship from Star Blazers, which is cool.
GS-07 would also look great if the prow was shortened somewhat to make it look more 'balanced'. I'm not saying that ships should be symmetrical but that the mass should look balanced around the engine's axis of thrust.
On a side note, just for the record, anything that even looks remotely like a Vexor is just bad bad bad. The accursed thing looks like a freaking flying blow dryer......
Actually GS-07 is starting to grow on me. Someonthing ominous about a big eye or eyes on a predatory fish as it glides through space looking for prey... It would be interesting to see if the prow is a single edge, or two+ prows (like whiskers) or a large cavity/mouth like a blue whale filtering krill. (But the prow still needs to be shortened a tad.)

Awsome detailed critique. Your very right about the design flaws. Honestly I gave her a halfassed try and today when I did the Minmitar designs I focused and gave them my undivided attention. You are SO right about designing the ships for gravity. One I step back it hits me like a ton of bricks that these are made according to earth logic. That simply cannot work in space ship design. Especially if I wish it to be interesting. I will be re-designing these initial pieces I put up, well see tommorrow if it will be the correciton to the Gallente or if I will move to the Caldari :)

These are all features I hope we can see in the Trinity II engine. (Or even better, in the current one with all the graphics updates)

That gallente BC's scale is waay off, not bad though.
I like 07 and 08, rest seem alot like existing ships. Anything with pizzazz yet rusty yucky? ---------------------------------------- Friends Forever

Good drawings, but to be honest a lot of those ships look much more Jove than anything else. Those that don't look somewhat gallente, but slightly too many rough edges for most gallente designs. ---------------------------------- "There's no +6 Sword of WTFPWN in Eve." - Er...
