Just wondering, in theory, what kinda range is doable in a Ferox with T2 250mm with Spike?
Fittings something like:
Hi: 5x 250mm T2 with Spike 2x Arby Heavy Missile
Med: hmmm... 1x Sensor Booster T2 2x Tracking Computer T2 1x Passive EM T2 1x Something else? Cap related I'd assume
Lows: 3x Mag Stabs T2 1x PDS T2
Never setup a Railgun based Ferox... so flame away
Wouldn't this be a cheap alternative to an Eagle?

I don't think you'd have the power for all that... But not sure atm.
George just lucky i guess ! |

Fit 150mm rails to shoot ceptors/dictors trying to scramble your bs during fleet fights. -------

You'll have just about enough grid.
I'd replace the arby's with assaults, since your tracking <30km is going to be diabolical, and heavies don't have the range over 70km.
I'd also be tempted to drop the EM for 2x Invuln. The Ferox has the cap to run them both for a fair amount of time.

Trouble with this is you aren't playing up to the boni the ship has. Might aswell do that in a Harpy (-1 x 150mm), and get all the damage boni that gets to Small Hybrids.
I'd be expecting this setup with Spike to be hitting at over 100km...
Anyone got any practical experience sniping with a 'rox?

while there are no launcher bonuses, you could run a full rack of Arby Assaults and kill frigates as point defence. ferox has the tank to take a few punches so its better then AF/Destroyer for point defense.

I checked a setup similar to the OP's (i used an invuln field) with quickfit's Cap Simulation and got tired of watching it after it hit 8 minutes at about 28-30% cap. I think it would have eventually run out of cap, but 8-10 minutes is pretty good.
My max targetting range with the best tech 1 named sensor booster on this build is 105km+ and the spike ammo 250's optimal is 111km.
You might drop the hardener for a webber and carry some antimatter in case you get some close-in company. -= Save the Gila! Fix its grid and cpu! =-

Unless you can boost your optimal up to 200km somehow, you won't be any help in fleets as damage dealer and even then you'd look at a really weak alpha strike compared to a battleship.

Edited by: LUKEC on 10/05/2006 15:35:38 Well it might work. Not really uber damage but it might pop a frig or cruiser inside enemy fleet. Not really what i'd call effective, but it might be good to help your own tacklers.
But i think you would do better with few sensor boosters and precision heavys - On caracal.

Wouldn't it be better to use the Ferox with gang modules and setup to help with the frigs?
Like others have written...in a fleet fight the Ferox might not be so good as a damage dealer.

With Spike M and skills, you can push your optimal out to 130km or so on a reasonable setup, which should do quite a number on support cruisers and such at range. The below should do the trick:
High: 5x 250mm Railgun II (Spike M) 1x Prototype Cloaking Device 1x Gang Mod Of Choice
Mid: 2x Sensor Booster II 2x Tracking Computer II 1x ECM - Multispectral Jammer I/II
Low: 1x Power Diagnostic System II 1x Damage Control of Choice 2x Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
