Not if you set a 12+ hour skill. I'd go for 1 day+ personally

Not unless you set a short skill training. Put > 3 days skill training and you should be safe. ---------------- RecruitMe@NOINT! Corporate Consultation Services

you don't loose 1 hour during downtime, and you will not loose 12 hours during tomorrow's downtime unless you forget to change it beforehand.

Hmmm, ok. But I'm pretty sure b/c the training skills go by the hours and not when it is scheduled to finish, whenever the server goes down, your training stops as well, and it begins again once it is back on-line. Hence, my original post.

They roll forward all training to compensate for downtimes and the like. Or something like that.

Incorrect. Training is not done in real time--it simply calculates when it will be done, and displays the time remaining from that.
If it had to update the training for 300,000 characters every second, the server would surely crash.

No. If you set battleship 5 and it takes 45 days to complete, and the servers were down for the next 45 days, you'd get battleship 5 (though not many people would be left to play the game ). All thats stored on the server is the date/time when your skill is completed, it is not updated in real time. This means that you can install +5 perc and willpower implants, set battleship 5, get podded 10 seconds later, and you'll keep training at the same rate. --- Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail. - Emerson |

I beg to differ. If you jump clone/change implants (being podded seems to fall into this)/raise learning skills, the timer in your skills window changes accordingly.
*I* can't know (unlike many other people apparently) what's written in the database as I am not an admin at CCP's, but I'm sure it's slightly more complicated than 'it stores the date and time your skill will finish', as that depends on your attributes changing unpredictably at any time during such time - I'd rather guess it's got to do with stocked sp's, current learning speed and latest attributes change.
If you set BS 5 when you have +5 implants and get podded 10 seconds later, I'm afraid all you have is alot less isk and a new grudge.

what hilaxiu said is correct. once your training is in place the skill will finish at that point in time even if you are podded and lose implants.
if u change implants or use jump clones u have to stop your skill training first so afterwards when u re-start the skill the new time is calculated. -

i beleive the system works by looking at how long the skill would take to change if you had default attributes (one or zero accross the board), then takes your attributes into account to figure out when exactly it should finish, it then records this time, and uses a script to create the countdown thing. This only ever changes when you're logged on, so, when the server is down, this can't change, so they just offline the server, do their crap, when it comes online the clock will still be right, and it'll finish exactly when it thourght it would.
That's how i figured it worked anyway. -----------------

Very intriguing, I retire my comment. Hadn't taken into account that keeping a skill running may evade the recalculation, what with day to day life involving changing/replacing implants, switching skills due to RL or extended DTs and so on.

when you start training a skill, the point in time when it is finished is tagged. When that time passes, you finish training the skill. EVE would have to think that it was twelve hours ago for you to lose 12 hours of training.

Didnt you know? 80% of the players in this game are either game designers (just playing Eve for ideas maybe?) or computer IT professionals/codebuilders. At least thats what they say.. Isn't this true for all MMO's? To everyone who thinks you have a good idea, use the Features and Ideas Discussion forum (3rd from down). That way you'll really see if you are the revolutionary new game designer who's so hot and skilled that you'll be made the new CEO of the company or are you like 99,999...% of people who just suck at it and haven't grasped the concept of the importance of resources and total balance.
And yes, EVE only stores the ending date and time for skilltrain in its db. my capital mining ship idea |

Training continues across 'downtime'. (Regardless of whether it's an hour, or a week)
It also continues across account suspension or bans.
It is calculated when you start the skill training - this is why you have to stop training when you clone jump. It also means that if you put in some +5s to train battleship 5, unless you stop the skill for some reason, even if you get podded, you'll still get the 'fast' rate. -- We are recruiting
