Ok is it just me, or is it the jerk miner , or is it just the respawn of the ore. I warp in to every belt in system and EVERY +% ore has been reduced to less than 1 cycle of ore. Like someone came in and just cycled their strip miner once and jumped to the next rock, Why not cycle and pulse until they got all? Laziness? Someone shed some light on this for me. Im not quite getting the mentality behind this. Is it just to grief? is it actually a better more efficient way to mine? lame I say! |

The miners are trying to maximize yield per cycle. They keep a close eye on amount of ore left in the rock by using a survey scanner, and when it is less than a full cycle switch to a different rock.
I can't be bothered to watch the survey scanner that close, I just keep going until they pop. At least you can be pretty sure they aren't bots. |

Ok I guess this makes sense. Man I don't have the concentration to stare at a scanner either. I still stand by my post. It's pissing me off |

you really only have to run the scanner when you have a rock that's low, and then you just stop your cycle 1/2way through.
Leaving some ore in the rock might date back to the MYTH that rocks will respawn larger if they have ore in them vs. if they're popped.
I remember early days in 0.0 we used to never pop the ark or bistot rocks for that belief. It was great when CCP finally debunked that myth.

full on newb sec. Which makes it even more weird that someone would be hanging around in newbsec doing that. But I guess I understand the 'logic' I mean mining is boring already, I cant imagine all the point and click doing it this way. this isn't a whine fest either- I was just trying to figure out what the heck was going on |

it's not really a lot of point and click. The scanner will tell you all the rocks in range and what their volume is. You can update it every mining cycle if you want, but generally you wouldn't do it until you knew you were close to being within a cycle or two of popping the rocks you're currently mining. |

If you're up in 0.9 or 1.0, the rocks are small normally. Could be that someone cherry-picked the best ore yesterday and when the rocks respawned at DT, they're small and it looks like someone's mined them, but it's just that they were mined completely yesterday
Maybe find somewhere quieter to mine |

As far as I know if the whole belt is mined out it respawns with smaller rocks the next day. Not sure if that's a recursive thing so multiple days could shrink it right down. In 0.8-1.0 it's not uncommon to see most rocks smaller than a single cycle though. The Indecisive Noob - A new EVE Fan Blog for news and stuff. I do that. Are you mining pyro? I do that to solid pyro rocks Does it make you want to stop mining pyro? If so, my work here is done. |

If you know how much ore is in the asteroid, how much you mine each cycle and the length of the cycle you can calculate how long optimal mining should take and do something else with an alt |

I was under the impression that was the case as well that totally mining out rocks would result in a decreased spawned amount the following DT. I have no proof for that statement though. Who mines in 0.8 - 1.0 ? |

You're probably seeing the left overs of bots. The more popular bot programs have a feature that lets you set it to mine only a couple of cycles. It will then set on to the next rock. |

no, it's quite easy to do in high sec.
easier, actually. the belts in high sec are smaller. |

So I'm mining a rock, the rock has 19k units in it. My strip miner takes 8.25k per cycle, that means that I can only get 2 full cycles from it. So why not afk mine for 2 cycles and when 2nd cycle is up stop the strip miner, select the next rock and start the strip miner on the next rock. Who has the time to constantly work out the percentage of a cycle it will take to pop that rock? |

Maybe pissing you off is the plan.
Maybe they think the next downtime increase in ore will be better if the rocks are already there to be added to.
Maybe they don't want to half-cycle a T2 crystal.
