On some help threads ive posted and read i see people who just comment on how stupid that person must be not to know that, and other similar things akin to that. Almost the complete opposite of the people in-game. Could someone mind explaining this to me?

Think of the game as a penitentiary. Some convicts are in for life and they've been around for a long time, they play cards and power games at the tables furthest back from the guards, other convicts stay clear and show respect. The penitentiary is home. They've got their habits there, and they don't like change. Change is bad, it's taken them years to reach their current status, to establish themselves. Change can only be for the worse.
New inmates now ... New inmates do not know the rules, new inmates talk too much, new inmates do not show proper respect, new inmates threaten the status-quo. New inmates are change. Change is bad. Even worse, new inmates have not proved themselves, they have earned nothing. New inmates need to understand their place at the bottom ... or be dealt with.
The forum is the recreational area when convicts and inmates are thrown together ...

New to the internet?
"The forums" are always a fair bit worse than the game's population.
Which still makes us a damn sight more friendly than most other games. Hang out on the League of Legends forum for a few days, then mentally apply the rule of thumb I mentioned above, that the game is only a bit better than their hideous forums.
At least EVE doesn't have humanoid character models, otherwise we'd have the "adult version" fan drawings to deal with too. "Verily, I have often laughed at the weaklings who thought themselves good because they had no claws."

The forums here were weaponised a long time ago. There a reason new citizens Q&A has restrictions. General discussion in particular needs a "Here be Trolls" sticky as a signpost. The sub forums tend to get left out of it ( bar f&I ) .

Mostly the forum community is fine, imo, with a few really outstanding contributors. Im also frequently surprised by what "once in a blue moon" posters create. They, to me, are the most valuable, and a reminder of the fact there is a much larger community at hand, and of how bright and clear headed much of that is.
Unfortunately there is also a small squadron of dedicated stonewall/whitewash/spin alts whos assigned purpose is to disrupt certain topics in favor of vested interests. These are, to me, the only toxic element here. There can be no constructive discussion with people intent on sabotaging it. Communication is a very fragile thing, especially in a text based format where they can get away with lack of intellectual integrity and honesty that in a IRL face-to-face situation wouls have the entire room of wider participants just staring at them shaking their heads, facepalming, saying "what is this **** doing". ------------ |

Jeremy, I don't think you are entirely aware of what you are talking about; not the whole forum or game community acts the way you presume it does, and there's no such clear differential line of the players that you meet on the forums, and those you meet materially in-game.
Actually, you'd be surprised is more or less the same people, but using a forum alt, or just their "main" characters to post on the forums. So, there you go, you are talking to possibly more or less the same people you might find in-game. ~ C.W.

You're the single most toxic poster on these forums since Ace Uoweme. And that's something, considering you don't talk about feminism or world of warcraft nonstop like she did.
You do not have any room to lecture anyone about "toxic" posting. "Verily, I have often laughed at the weaklings who thought themselves good because they had no claws."

Here is a prime example of whom I was speaking:
Notice the false implication and dishonesty in claiming I have said something I never have. Nowhere have I said I would laugh at a murder.
Notice the ad hominem, character assasination and attempt at defaming by means of association with some Uoweme poster whom I have never even heard of.
Notice the attempt to tackle and discredit myself for pointing out who the actual toxic cadre of posters is, by attacking me personally and trying to role reverse me as being "worse" than them.
This is also a guy who has, dishonestly and without integrity, repeatedly stated I have claimed to be a lawyer, but has nowhere been able to provide proof of that. ------------ |
