First, give us the option to form drone gangs(like current groups but with more functionality), making it so that all drones in that gang move as one unit ALL THE TIME. Including when they randomly pick targets without you telling them to.
Secondly, when they do pick a random target, make it so that they pick the one closest to them. Many a time have my drones travelled 50 km in one direction to kill a single npc then travelled 50km in the other to kill another single npc, back and forth. I have no idea why they do it but its pretty annoying.
Why dont i just lock the npcs and give my drones orders manually? Well its a bit difficult when the npc's are all jamming you, and by the time you have locked the npc in question your drones have scattered and flown in different directions. Either way, i think these two changes would make things a lot more easier and comfortable for us drone users so why havent they been implemented? ______________

I always pop the drones before I get aggro'd (and thus jammed), then the drones always go for a the same target, but after there done with that target, they become useless as they all spread up. I always order them to return and orbit then.

Yeah, they really should all attack the same enemy when working without your orders.

I'd accept if they just added hotkeys "Drone group X attack selected target". Heck at this point I'd even accept a single "All drones attack selected" key.
That plus increasing the distance drones can re-enter the bay to 2000 to help with drons that like to hang around and take a smoke break at 1550 would solve most of the problems I have.

Then they'd just probably hang at 2050 instead They just need to change that they simply fly all the way to 0m or so instead of not doing so. Can't be all that hard to do

you can already make sub-groups for your drones, stick them in the proper group folder, and just right click the folder when ordering it to attack or whatever?

I'd settle for the drones belonging to the same sub-folder being grouped. For example, you might have Drones/Medium/Vespa. If you have all your Vespas in that folder, they act as a group. Simple. Likewise, you might have Drones/EWar, Drones/Frigate, Drones/Cruiser etc.
Assigning a drone to multiple sub-folders would be nice to. Launching that sub-folder would cause drones not belonging to that group to return to drone-bay, whereupon those drones in the folder not in space would be launched one by one until there are five in space. If one dies, another one is launched.
It's unlikely, but a man can dream, can he not?
