CCP does a good job. They made a few mistakes ... *shrug* last I checked, no one is perfect :) Now if anyone out there wants to prove me wrong, I'm open to submissions for the perfect person. There will always be *something* wrong with everything, and before you can say there is nothing wrong with [insert item], inspect it .. .fully ... probably has a flaw in it somewhere :)
As much fun as I find programming, there are a lot of things to remember, and game of this magnitude has so much in it, that no one can keep track of *ALL* the veriables. What looks like a problem with a simple solution can have 100's of different causes.
The game company trend has been latly to release a buggy game and patch it later. Why? Its not to **** you off. If they spent the time to squish every single bug, the game would be in development till it died. Do this, look at the games in the past that have never had a bug. I know a few, but they were also very simple programs, relative to the games that come out now. Anything released before pentium 2's existed in general had few to no problems ... but as more equipment variations came out, faster equipment, more capable processors, things in the programming community got a bit harder. Then put on top of all this, a game of such magnitude and scope to astound even those who dont' play games.... and you're going to get bugs.
If any of you can get a similar experience and enjoyment that eve gives you for as long (when it's running right) for less then $13 a month, please list 'em here. It's about the price of a movie .. but then, a movie is only 2 hours .. not a month long. OK ... rent some movies. . .can get 3-4... maybe 5... but that's only a week at most, then your paying late fees... ant farm? Pet earthworms maybe ... on the cost issue, but well, for me, not on the fun level. Maybe fishing could, if you dug up your own bait, or cought it (tho I dont' like to fish, others may)... but again, only a few things out there that could.
So from the big picture we got a horribly complex game thats fairly cheap and is greatly entertaining.
Alternatives that would offer the same for the cash value and time: I know of none. At minimum I could say my wife takes $20 a week for a cheap dinner out... so that doesnt' even work. Now if she payed for dinner all the time , maybe... *shrug*
CCP will fix the bugs. They will do it over time, but they will get fixed. Some of the more glaring bugs will get fixed sooner. But it will take time for them to investigate the issues. I wish they could jsut wave a magic wand and say "BE fixed" and all was right, but it doesnt' work that way. Once they Identify the problem, then they need to Identify possible solutions. Once they've got all possible solutions listed, they need to pick the best one, and then implement it. IF they miss a solution, or rush the process, they will miss things and the "Fix" will end up breaking more things, or doing nothing at all. Do you really want them to make things worse with a supposed fix? Didn't think so either. Give them time to fix it and do their thing. If your a master program, fly out to their office and submit an application.
Someone's sig sais that if your not a part of the solution, you might be a part of the problem ... so be a part of the solution and help them come up with Possible solutions. Only when they have all possible solutions can they pick one that is feasable with their system and solves the problems without causing new ones. If they need to reprogram their engine from scratch ... well ... it's a suggestion :)
