Welp.
I had the feeling that you guys might have bitten off more than you could chew, to borrow a phrase.
Sad, especially for those who lost their jobs, but at least it's good to have closure.
Atlanta did what looked like some very good work on environment creation tools. Any chance that that work will be salvaged for use in EVE/DUST, or is it all being written off? Proud founder and member of the Belligerent Desirables. |

I'll believe it when either one of them is actually dead. Did you take a read Chribba's last artice in regards to new characters created in Dust? Pretty much says it all. Ooh. Link?
I believe he's referring to this post, where Chribba, when asked, documents the extent of the new-character-creation exploit in DUST. Proud founder and member of the Belligerent Desirables. |

I figured it was doomed as soon as I heard that they were going back to square one because of Rust/DayZ. Nothing against those games--I've never played either--but if you chase every new shiny you will never ship anything, or maybe you'll push out some poorly-stitched-together Frankenstein monster of a game, only to watch it collapse under its own weight.
I guess I'm puzzled that WoD itself wasn't inspiration enough. But then, I haven't heard much good about the working environment in the Atlanta offices, so maybe nothing was ever going to happen. It's a shame, because a WoD MMO could be amazing, and CCP could pull it off. Their particular brand of mostly-hands-off dystopian sandbox is perfect for the game. I look forward to attempt #2, when CCP's new management and development processes are proven and second nature, they've retired the worst of the legacy code in their flagship, DUST is finally finished and launched, and the underlying tech has advanced to the point where it's possible to render gorgeous avatars without melting your customers' machines.
WoD is not Twilight. It's a dark, rich game that falls right into CCP's conceptual wheelhouse. They just have to get the execution right next time. Proud founder and member of the Belligerent Desirables. |

You jest, but imagine an MMO with the beginning of TESO: a quick, optional tutorial, at the end of which is an optional quest pickup to go to a little starter island to get your feet wet. Except that, instead of dropping you into an all-PVE levelled story, it dropped you into an urban Cyrodiil (huge PVPVE area).
Bethesda does terrific NPC dialog and voice acting, so they could add to the richness of the background world. They have a good, solid, minimal-UI combat system with collision detection. They have a very good character creator. Zenimax cheesed up the appearance of the game world a bit to accommodate the constraints of an MMO, but hey, they delivered. License the world to Bethesda and the tech to Zenimax and see what they can do with it. Why not? Proud founder and member of the Belligerent Desirables. |
