I am working the noobie Trojan Horse missions and may have really screwed myself. Part 6 (?) is a courier mission to go pickup a DNA sample. After picking up the sample but before delivering it I also accepted a kill mission. Unfortunately I got way over my head. Killed 4 out of 8 drones but the last 4 gang killed me. Two ships and some insurance checks later, I'm ready to continue but don't have the DNA anymore.
If I try to cancel the mission with the agent, I get a warning saying that if I do, I won't be able to continue the storyline. Damn.
Is there a way around this? What will happen when the mission times out? Will that break the storyline also? I've gone back to the pickup location, but my hanger is empty. Did I just really goof myself up? 
Sorry if this has been answered before, but the only results search gives me are related to bugs from 2 years ago.

p.s. On a totally different topic... What is an "aggression timer"? |

If you let the mission "time out" then it will probally break the mission line the same as outright abandoning it. Not sure as to how you can get things fixed up though.
And ignore the aggression timer when you've fought npc's recently, it's only important if you've been fighting/stealing from another player.

1. You'll break the storyline for that single string of missions. Heck, you might even get it again later. There's nothing major to lose.
2. Aggression timer--mouse over it to see who the timer is against.

If you're really lucky you might be able to find a DNA sample on the market, or someone might have one lying around. Not sure whether the game cares if it's the exact same one you got from your agent.
