Apparently my Asus ATi Radeon x850 Pro 256Mb PCI-E doesn't support the W Depth buffer, but a was wondering if there is any way to utilize the Hyper-Z that it does support? Or if there is anyway to force eve to take the W buffer?
Just a suggestion, I'm getting really fed up of flickering stations/asteroids/ships, t ruins the immersion of the game.

I have a similar problem with a N6800 videocard from Asus.
When I start Eve, the desktop flickers and faint horizontal lines appear in the taskbar. The splashscreen is garbled and the colors are reds and yellows, and the login in screen is full size. It has been this way ever since RMR. When I try to put Eve in W buffer, is autos back to Z, also I can't play in Windowed mode.
Eve is the only game, or program for that matter, which has this problem. I am convinced it is due to Eve not being compatible with this flavor of 6800.

Same thing happens to me, keeps switching back to z, I was just doing a search to find out why it does that. I have a 7900gt.

AFAIK my at 9800xt (game runs great with this and my A/64 3000+ cpu) DOES support W-buffer but everytime I try and use it the game switches back to z-buffer. Go figure.

8800GTX here, and same issue.
I filed a support petition about it, and after being asked for my dxdiag, being told to update my drivers (even though they were 3 weeks old), and submitting a new dxdiag, I finally was told to "submit a bug report" after I asked them to pass on the info that the w buffer isn't working to the devs.
I guess the support department is highly insulated from the dev team, which is unfortunate.

Whatever you chose, the client automatically uses the only setting your card supports.
You can't turn off a client design glitch causing the flickering. Some grafic engine designer code for exactly one way of displaying something, avoiding the usual interfaces they should use because hacking is Tah Co0lZ. --*=*=*--
The cause for this is not yet known, but we do have a possible fix in testing. by Sharkbait | 2006.09.20 |
