I am sure most of you know about this already but I know for sure some of you don't after witnessing a number of people lose their ships to this trick over the past couple of days.
A corporation - wittily called 'Gankerz' - set up a small POS in Yong - a 0.4 system. One of their members would then initiate a cyno field at the POS and inform local that a mothership or something equally cool was jumping in.
Amazingly (and we witnessed this happening on several occasions) curious neutrals would warp to the cyno to see what was happening and then get warp scrambled and ganked by the POS.
I am pleased to say that this particular POS has now been explosively dismantled by the CVA but I just wanted to remind people that warping to CYNOs is not necessarily the smartest thing to do.

A corp called muffinman does the same in the system Messoya. It traps the most of the newer players. Pretty *** on the first hand, but pretty smart on the other too :).

Well the two active members that we know about now are FStenz and Clash(something).
We stole and blew up FStenz Anathema which he left outside the POS a few days ago and last night executed the POS...

It never fails. Every time we move a cap ship fleet, we always have an audience. It's always kind of amusing, especially when Golan starts using local chat to convert the local heathens.
When a couple ships jump in, people are usually all, "Ooohhh... pretty!" When ten or twelve jump in people start asking questions like, "You're not shooting at us are you??"

We did this to bob once (without the local melodrama though) and they warped a interceptor and a battleship to a large POS....Hilarity ensues!

Let's not forget the old chestnut of the sabbed set of instas. The look like a normal set of instas but some will drop you onto a sun or hostile POS. The really funny one is when the POS they drop onto has nothing to do with you and it kicks off a whole messy chain of events.
Never buy instas from strangers

We had quite a funny one during the last IMP/VC war. Evol were moving their cap ships back from Outer Ring, one of the stops being Hophib. Cyno goes up and one of the hostiles goes to poke about, or at least I assume that's what he was doing from the exclamation in local shortly after it jumped up by about 15-20 people.

I wont deny that we had an pos out there.
but, there were no guns on the pos. I guarantee it. They attacked it with no reason what so ever. This is an excellent example of a alliance using unprovocatin force and dictatorship.

Everyone makes mistakes and I'm sure you've definately learned from it.
If it makes you feel any better, I lost 2 covops within 12 hours this weekend. You know, the ships that are impossible to lose unless you're ******* retarded?
First due to a friendly bubble set up ahead of the friendly gang as I was chasing hostiles who scared off the bubble dropper. I was sucked in even at 100km off the gate and had no knowledge it was there and showed up next to a hostile inty who had been sucked in as well. Second was a misclick uncloaking at a gate camp instead of right-click -> warp. 120m gone in 12 hours (though within 3 game time hours as I logged after the first one, slept, and woke up to lose my newly purchased).

Good to know its been dismantled.
Saw the cyno the other day, and since I was in a non implant jump clone, figured id check it out with a shuttle. Didn't expect to come across a PoS at the other side. Was kind of amused by the ploy, and quite glad that I took decent precautions :)

It's low sec and if it was intended or not doesn't matter much. Cynofields can be next to an aggressive pos. If that cynofield is the final destination of a capital, it's really likely that it's next to a pos ! You either learn by informing yourself, learn by the mistakes of others or by doing the mistakes yourself. And if you are in low sec, you should be prepaired to learn some things the hard way anyway.
A ship loss isn't the end of the world, especially in this case, where you do this mistake maybe once due to lack of knowledge, but not twice. I can only repeat: It's 0.4, think of it as a valuable lesson, no matter if it was a 'griefer pos' or not, get a new ship and move on.

My corp tried this in Beke the day the module was released. We already had over 100 kills with our starbase through other means, not counting shuttles and rookie ships. The Cynosural Field didn't help, though. It was more effective asking people for help with missions, and so forth.

Yes its sneaky, yes its low and yes its someone ingenious/clever.
