Would such even be feasable? I was trying to find an answer to Faction ship insurance as oppose to just posting a whine to the Devs to please fix.
We got every other kinda business in EVE (well except the "oldest profession" but I've herd rumors...) why not player insurance companies.
I make cool banners for ISK.

Because it would be virtually impossible to do I bet. Imagine trying to prove that you actually lost a ship. The killmails can be faked easily enough, and thus you get free isk basically, and can then sell off said faction ship and get even more isk. EVEBay

People get blown up all the time, some customers would probably die seven times in a week in battleships for example. It just would not be profitable at all and I bet any insurance company would quickly go into debt. Plus all those reasons up there in previous posts.

Well it appears you're all right about this. I couldn't see how to do it either. Well...I'm off to whine about insurance for Faction ships...

Hard to see how you can whine about the cost. You can get them from an agent for, basically, the cost of a regular Megathron; so the only way you can calculate a fair price for one, is the cost of a regular Megathron. Which is pretty much what you get.
That the huge demand for them raises the market value, doesn't really affect the genuine worth of the thing. ________________________________________________

Edited by: Sever Aldaria on 15/05/2006 21:10:07 I agree with what people are saying that it would involve too much trust and be too easy to find loop holes, wouldn't work well, ect. ect.
However, perhaps with the new contracts system comming in Kali, something like this might be possible. Probably not but since the details of the contract system are unknown and still being developed, who knows? It might.

Send me 120 mil per faction frigate you want insured. 500 mil per faction cruiser. 1.2 billion per faction bs. (t2 ships insured at 50% of faction rates)
Full replacements will be provided.
Any attempt to defraud waives your right to replacement or refund.

Maybe make it a requirement that the destruction of the faction ship has to be frapsed? Those would be pretty difficult to fake I'd imagine. But it could still be done.
Yeah, definately a trust issue. Be nice if the contracts system that CCP is implementing would include player insurance companies but I doubt that is what they had in mind for the new contract system. Who knows, maybe they'll surprise us. ___________________

Edited by: Chiralos on 16/05/2006 01:15:18 Two big problems are (a) the potential insurance market might not be large enough to make it worthwhile, and (b) faked killmails. A player run insurance company might work like this:
(1) Player or CEO negotiates with insurance agent, agreeing on premium, time period, pilots covered, regions, maximum amount of ISK covered and agreed values for ships. Premium is paid.
(2) In case of a loss, killmail is forwarded to insurance agent. Killmail has all the relevent data to check claim: when, where, who and what died. Insurance agent pays up, adjusts premiums.
I imagine premiums would be prohibitively high for unknown individuals - but coming down for individuals or corporations with good insurance records. Someone like ISS Logistics, for instance, might be able to enforce the necessary pilot discipline and negotiate for better premiums.
Underwriting such an insurance company could be an investment opportunity. Rather than putting cash into the insurance company, underwriters would be liable for a percentage of losses, and have would have a week or so to liquidate assests to cover claims.
But the potential market may simply be too small to bother - and then there's the faked killmail problem. Perhaps CCP could add some sort of "verified forwarding" system for in-game mail, giving you the option of forwarding a piece of incoming mail without alteration (and flagging verified forwards as such in your inbox).

Edited by: Dawn Verragan on 16/05/2006 11:23:03 I always wondered why CCP doesn't provide some nifty feature to validate a forwarded killmail. Like some Agent who you can message an ID-Code off the mail who then can tell you the associated data by himself/herself ? "Yeah 'Foo Bar' lost a Fleet Issue Blabla ..."
Would open up some interesting possibilities like this insurance stuff, still needing trust to the insuring company though. But the player info would be quite a bit more trustworthy
Edit: hehe, i just glanced the message in front of me, similar stuff *cough*
