Hello,
I got a Maller in which I happen to do level 2 missions easily. Being cautious and having only 3M skill points, I plan to buy a stronger ship to try some level 3 missions in the weeks to come. Considering the prices are close between Heavy Assault Ships and Battlecruisers, what would be the most reasonable ship to have to be able to do those level 3 missions solo? I understand I will have a lot of skill to train before I am able to pilot an Heavy Assault Ship but I am not in a hurry and the armor resistance of those ships sounds awesome comparing to Battlecruisers'...
Thank you for your advices, Ambre.

Battlecruisers, a Prophecy will do you nicely.
Just remember to insure it .

A well-skilled HAC will likely clear L3s a good deal faster than a BC, but it needs a lot of the same support skills.
My advice is to go for the BC first (easy to train) and build your support skills; you'll indirectly be training some of the HAC prerequisites anyway.

I was just thinking the same, not looked at ship prices recently but I'd have thought that you're typical HAC is 6-8 times the cost of the racial equivalent BC

If you already fly a HAC it will more than likly work... if your training for it get a Battlecruiser first. I solo the Massive Attack Missions in my Cyclone just fine :P

I got the prices of the BCs and HACs from the CCP Item Database but they may be completely wrong comparing to the market itself. Sorry I have no idea. Few prices listed were :
Prophecy, Amarr BC, 25.500.000,00 ISK, Sacrilege, Amarr HAC, 17.062.600,00 ISK, Zealot, Amarr HAC, 17.956.216,00 ISK.
Anyway I will buy a BC as everyone recommended me to do so :)

I'll cut and paste what I wrote for another thread because I think it might be useful to you if you decide to stick with the maller for a while so you can train HAC.
"I have 1.1 Million skill points and can run every level 3 in my maller.
5x Medium Modulated Pulse Energy Beam (multifrequency) 1x Medium Nosferatu
Y-S8 Hydrocarbon Afterburner Eutectic Capacitor Charge Array Medium Cap Battery II
Medium Armor Repairer II 2x Voltaic Nanite Adaptive Plating 1600 Rolled Tungsten Plate Extruded Heat Sink Type-D power core Cap Relay
With this setup I usually target the closest enemy and afterburn in, my cap can recharge faster then the ABs so I get there with full cap, at 10km I slap the NOS on, at 6k I start turning the guns on, at 5k I turn off the afterburner as i'm now close enough.
I rinse and repeat for all the other enemies. My cap skills enable me to run either my afterburner or repairer nearly all day alone, once in range of enemies the NOS means I can run everything at the same time although by then I usually turn off the AB's and my cap starts going up even with the repairer running!
Sometimes its a little too easy :)"
Hope that helps

Ah, I see - think you'll find that something like a Zealot goes for 180 - 200 million on the open market because of demand far outstripping supply. So i think that going the BC route for now might be for the best

Assault Ships ftw! Yes, I know, they weren't listed as an option, but they sell for about what the BC's do, and they can do level 3 missions.

zealot for 17mil... those were the days... hard to believe just a year and a half ago you could get a vaga for 28mil and naga had 20+ in stock and could get rid of them.

Um if you read it that is why he was asking what he should get is because he saw those prices in the item database and thought they where about the same as a BC.
To OP. Item Database is nice for general information but for prices i'd racomment using the ingame market. Anything Tech 2 is going to be horribly marked up ingame.

Me lubs me Harpy. I do lvl 3's in it all the time. Sometimes those pesky little varmint frigs can't be killed with a HAC (due to the close range or rather it takes too much time). Yet generally I use an Eagle or Cerberus for lvl 3's.
My setup though costs a way bit more more than the ship itself.

Assault frigates work quite well on level 3 missions, but a battlecruiser is by far the easiest to train for and can be fully insured.

I'm doing pretty well with a standard cruiser on level 3's...
sure, some of them require a warp out, but most don't seem too.

HAC's and BS are good at lv4's, and obliterate lv3's. AF's and BC's are good for lv3's, each one has its strengths and weaknesses on certain missions but in general BC and BS are the better choice for each (and much quicker to train for).

Battlecruiser or HAC? Why not take the best of Battlecruiser and HAC, combined in one neat package?
They're called Field Command Ships, I'm currently using one in missions, and I'm loving it
Besides, since aparently not many players are flying Command ships yet, the market prices for those aren't much higher than those of HACs.

Because they require the skills of both a Heavy Assault Ship and a Battlecruiser and then some? They're a nice long-term goal but since you're going to end up in both of the other two ships before it, you might as well fly them.
Considering how long it takes to train for a Heavy Assault Ship, you might as well take Battlecruiser to 3 or 4 and fly it for a while first.

HACs are exceptional for level 4s, so you may find there is no challenge at all in one. level 3s can be done in AFs, and many in cruisers, so just go with battlecruiser I would say. _______
