Drones as so good they are all I use now. You will rarely if not never see me with a turret or missile launcher fitted. Onto the reason for this post not much, just even if half of its true there are too many negative posts on drones and not enough positive posts. So lets all post the good thing about drones.
Starting off I love the way they auto target. Just aggro everything and focusĘs on looting and everything else let the drones change targets for you, great for lvl 3 missions. Today I crashed out of Eve by the time I logged back in my drones had auto targeted and killed all the enemy ships.
What do you lot like about drones?

The fact that they come in a dozen different flavours and sizes. It is VERY rare that I use any bs with less than 3 different types of drones in the hold :)

No. Drones are the worst weapon system in the game, they are overly nerfed and need a major boost.

When they follow in warp, they will be, since then, they are crap.
Also they are good way to die on certain lvl4 missions, excellent isk sink if you ctd on certain locations etc.
They need some more love. They are fine, apart from some retarded bugs.

In certain situations when you CTD your ship will(would?) stay in "current state" - basically keeps all your auto repeat modules going, in other words, your tank continues and your guns stay on the same target (drones would continue scurrying about) and your ship will not auto warp. If you log back in to this state, you (used to anyways) arive back in the exact same spot. I think you always auto warp now... --- Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail. - Emerson |

-Drones and guns do more damage then guns alone.. -They are versatile, heavy drones can hit all but the fastest ships, and even then you can usually carry a few different sets to meet your needs. -They dont require cap or ammo, and a gallente pilot who's guns require a lot of both I find this fact to be refreashing. -choose your damage -they work even after you've been jammed
and please fix the light drones AI

Besides their tactical and financial properties, drone warfare also has a very distinct style. Sic 'em boys!!!

I like the way that ships can use them and nos, and i like the way that they slaughter smaller things much better than other oversized weapon systems.
No wait, no I don't. That scares me ****less

The recent drone improvements, as well as the newer Tech II drones, have made drones much more useful.
Small Tech II drones have awesome MWD velocity, which makes them extremely useful when combined with a drone link. Send out the lights to take out the frigs at extreme range, have them MWD back quickly, then deploy medium/large drones to kick the snot out of the larger ships.
Drones are a very versatile weapon, and I'm glad that they are in the game!
With that being said... it would be nice if they could fix that bug where they attack your gang mates. That is the most annoying bug with them at the moment! __________

Edited by: Morrigan Starlover on 17/05/2006 00:33:17 You can set a ship up for long range sniping cruisers and BS while your drones handle the frigates.
And most of all, the drone skills are useful no matter what ship you fly, thats the best part imo.

I use drones as a primary, and sometimes secondary form of attack, (For what I do in EVE, Scout drones are the best) As a primary for taking down the big stuff while my ship's guns handle the small things, or as a secondary for when enemies get too close to me/turn their attention off my drones. I also suggest for Drone use, use a mix of the high price ones, and a good number of drones you consider expendable. So, when you lose one or two, it isnt a big pain.

Never ceases to amaze me how people can whine about drones being overpowered, and then defend missiles as balanced.
Gotcha! I bet that got ya all hot under the collar, didn't it? |

I like drones, they're quite effective... when they aren't stuck at 1600 meters preventing me from deploying a drone that can actually go fast enough to hit the stuff attacking me. Or randomly attacking targets other than the one I told them to three or four times. Or slowboating between targets.

at first I wold myself that I won't need them ... but my CEO talked me into training drones. after I got drone interfacing 4 I went like WOW now I never leave home without those little buggers ...
can kill 3 80k cruisers with osprey just with drones and one assault launcher while happily mining away ...

All that work to balance them out. Miles of threads, thousands of calculations, only to be bugged.
Hmm, lets see, time to launch the lights against the converging Inty's. Ok, they're popped. Now to send the heavies after that HAC. Oh wait, the lights won't return to my bay. Well three did, but two are stuck. So I guess its three heavies and two lights vs the HAC. Who's shouting in my ear on TeamSpeak? Oh, its my gang mate telling me to call the drones off him. No matter, I'm in structure now. My drones will stop attacking him once I'm gone.....

I like how only drone knoledgable pilots use their drones on all ships not just their dominix, so that all the ignorant noobs nerf themselves.

Edited by: Troubadour on 17/05/2006 07:44:10 in smaller gangs when maximizing your firepower is important, a domi with 3 ECMs can replace a scorpion or other EW ship. Not only does the domi have more firepower, it's drones will keep attacking even if jammed and they are effective much the same on almost all but very fast ships. Ontop of this you can fit a massive tank on them and still have a decent nossing, gunnery, or support setup.
You can set it up with an armor tank, shield tank, gank setup, EW setup, heavy tackling setup, nossing setup, or a combination of them. All this and they are like 55-65 mil a pop and are fully insurable at 18 million. You could spend over a billion buying and fitting out a faction battleship with the best gear, and easily lose it all in 1v1 to a properly setup domi that costed 70-80mil to buy and fit out.
It's without a doubt the most versatile and cost-effective ship in the game because of it's slot layout and ability to rely on drones for it's firepower.
Drones 4tw.
EDIT:
Also I have seen a tactic with 3 blasterthrons where they all carry 5 Large armor repair bots and in the heat of battle they put them on the guy taking the most firepower. 10 heavy repair bots are equal to about 3-4 large armor reps every 10 seconds. They also cost no energy to use. Ownage.
