Maybe you should get to know the game mechanics before trying to min-max your attributes?
Originally by: Phaese 2) "You should have rerolled". Damn straight we should have. Some of us didn't have the advantage of being guided by older players who would've suggested this, though.
If you want min-max'ed attributes, why not have researched this for yourself instead of relying on other people to do all the thinking in the game for you?
Originally by: Phaese 3) "Stop whining about it, it's just SP". Funny how I've never seen an Intaki say anything like that... Basically, this is saying, "guys, I really like being able to train faster than you, so shove off."
I deliberately put my attributes to be about the same for all, as I knew I didn't know enough to min-max them effectively.
Originally by: Phaese 4) "Charisma is useful, look at leadership". Yes, Charisma helps for a lot of leadership. And if that's your spec, by all means, pump charisma. But being forced to specialize in a certain field just because of your noobishly-chosen attributes is pretty lame.
You're not forced to specialize in anything. You can specialize into anything regardless of your attributes, it just takes you a bit longer in some branches than others. And regardless of what some powergamers may think, that is not a problem with the game.
Originally by: Phaese I've missed some I'm sure, but you get the idea. I suggest a point reallocation system... First, it would have a prerequisite; I'm thinking either a month or two playing EVE, or maybe a skill that you get after training biology V or I don't know. Basically, it would have to be inaccessible to new players (so they don't use their reallocation on more stupid stats). The actual reallocation would consist of a character getting their base bloodline stats back, then given their extra 9 again. I'm not sure of what the restrictions should be; a simple mirroring of the 5 extra points and then 4 "career" points of the character creation could be effective. It's a start.
And what stops me simply reallocating every time I change skill, to max out the two attributes used by that skill? Being able to reallocate would mean you got all the benefits of putting extra points into attributes, with none of the downside of having less in others. At that point you might as well save everyone the hassle, get rid of the assignable attribute points, and just boost every attribute by 3.
And that still wouldn't get rid of the min-max whining, as the base attributes of the bloodline would become even more important, so the cry would then be for the ability to switch bloodlines, career paths etc. The only way to "solve" this problem would be to force every bloodline and every career path to start with exactly the same attributes, starting skills etc. ------- There is no magic Wand of Fixing, and it is not powered by forum whines. |
