Sometimes I wonder why people are so naive about CCP. It's a company driven by devs who deeply care about their game, but first and foremost it's a company. A company *needs* to do it for the money. CCP is not a charity organization. A bunch of people said that CCP have 'abandoned' their ideals. **** that. They're trying as hard as they can to stick to them while making a game that is growing incredibly.
I dare say that China is instrumental for the survival and growth of CCP. Growth of all games rely on certain factors. Ads, word of mouth, game site coverage, features that separate them from other games, and so on. EVE China is twofold I think. The coverage garnered from this expansion will result in more players in TQ I'd think, mostly because more people would hear about it. Not to mention the fact that a bunch of Chinese players will join the fold.
VoIP would go under the 'feature' part. For the potential benefits that EVE will recieve from this, both for players already here and players who might start, the amount of work going in from CCP's part is INCREDIBLY LOW! In the long run I think that EVE will benefit a whole lot more from VoIP than a few bugfixes, like the cov-op and cyno bug. On the topic of bugs, I read alot about the frequent 'game-breaking bugs'. What have those posters been smoking? Game-breaking? The general idea of a game-breaking bug is when it actually renders *a lot* people unable to play, at all. Game-breaking bugs are the nasty ones that cause CTD's when doing frequent actions, like activating a module or undocking or something. Not being able to fit a cloak and cyno field on the same ship is hardly game-breaking. I'd love to see a list of these so-called game-breaking bugs.
Now, here's the part that will be flameridden for sure. As customers, we essentially have *no* *rights* *at* *all*. Period. EVE is a working product and we'd be hard pressed to find any legal rights. We can ***** and whine about the devs not talking to us, but that's only because we're used to them having done so in the past. You know what I think? I think that there's been an internal change of policy at CCP HQ. They saw that when devs posted the forum flames rose high and hot. If you would've seen a post from Oveur in say, January, saying that Kali *will* be released in July, I bet you would've been glad. Today, we had no such definite, actual post from Oveur. If we had I'm sure the flames would be much higher and hotter than compared to today when all we had to go on was the in many ways obsolete 'Features' page.
I believe that the latest flamefests on the forum has risen from the sometimes unfounded speculations and expectations. Can you believe the flames if devs had given definite time plans? Damn. I'd rather have a dev that gives me the general idea of something rather than the actual details. The potential to be let down is a lot lower then.
Sweet jesus, I'm sticking to my corp forums for a while. This silly dev-bashing sickens me really.
