I'm going to attempt to answer a lot of the questions contained in the thread in this post. I wil not be able to answer anywhere near all of them, but I will do my best.
Q: Why has China soaked up so many resources and what happened to no charge for new content, 1 server, etc.? A: The effort we had to throw at China took us by surprise and it did cause development/deployment issues. As Oveur stated, Serenity is almost ready for open beta, Devs are returning home, E3 is over and efforts are being reapplied to TQ. As for the profits made from licensing Serenity, we will not stop putting it back into TQ, be it by upgrading hardware (RAMSAN, Server or Database), new Devs, etc.
As Redundancy said, it's not about the money, it's about the game. If it was about the money, we would have sold out to one of the bigger companies a long time ago.
Serenity itself is a different political, business and social situation than Tranquility. We could not open TQ up to China without compromising TQ, her management or community.
Q: EVE Mobile Release Date? A: The EVE Lite (Mobile) client is being internalized after undergoing development at the University of Reykjavik. If you are interested in assisting with the development of the EVE Lite client, there is a Developer position open. No release date at this time.
Q: You're splitting the community into Haves and Have-nots with the Integrated Voice Client, you money grubbers! A: As stated ad nauseum in response to a number of players in the EVE Classic/Vista discussion thread, it is not CCP's intention to take advantage of the community or divide them into 2 segments, those that pay for the IVC service and those that do not. Please keep in mind that Vivox will be providing the backend, and it is their services the majority if a subscription fee will cover. We will do our best to keep subscriptions to this service minimal.
Yes, we are a 'for-profit' company, but we have done our best to ensure that the community is not taken advantage of. As an example, we do could charge for new expansions, but we do not.
Q: When is the next patch? A: We are going to apply the next Bloodlines patch on Tuesday, 23 May. More information, including the deployment time and Patch Notes will be available later today. There will probably be a patch or two between this one and phase 1 Kali.
Q: New Regions and naming, OMG! A: We are looking at involving the community in the naming of these new Regions in a RP format that we hope will generate better names than ID-10T or the like.
Q: Dancing, FPS, Joystick flight and RTS, OMGWTF?!?! A: We don't do elves, beer, something that has been discussed but *far* down any development road and beer.
Q: EVE on LINUX, OMGWTFBBQ?!?!?! Q: Things are looking good, but still in development.
Q: Why the frack haven't you fixed -insert personal pet peeve-? A: [/b]Some things are easier to fix than others, some issues take a back seat to larger issues, f. ex. a certain ship that flew backwards compared to a memory leak that crashed TQ, and some issues are slated for fixes in the future. As Mephysto stated in both of his recent Dev Blogs, it all comes down to prioritization.
While I appreciate the enthusiasm displayed by the community regarding Oveur's blog, I am also somewhat surprised by the amount of vitriol. We are doing what we can to improve EVE and do the best we can along the way.
