Originally by: Istvaan Shogaatsu I can see that being meaningful in other games that freely allow the peddling of virtual items, but here in Eve it's explicitly stated that every virtual item belongs to CCP. So no, you're not losing something that belonged to you.
Which, of course, is precisely why they take the position they do.

uhh... okay o_o
Seriously though, the fact that that said person got your number (in a number of myriad possible ways), and called you up even, is cause for some concern at least.
He has your number, what else could he have on you?
sidenote: here I was thinking GH-SC would only get the PC-Gamer UK 4-page article done on them, but no, now it's ANOTHER article! Jeez, someone stop their ever-increasin infamy! x_x -

Istvaan's real name has been published in EON (and probably other sources), so I doubt this person has anything else 'on' him.
In all probability, they probably looked him up in an online phone directory.

News must be thin on the ground. Not only is Istvaan on P38 in the magazine, but when I just checked the New Scientist site for late breaking news, his ugly mug is now showing as the top story
With the riveting news piece on "Pigeon-brained birds can think in logarithms" only coming in as the second from top listed news story Here's Jonny :) |

Maybe having Serenity separate from Tranq isn't so bad... no one wants stabby retribution or the like.

Well, no, that's not all it does. Perhaps you noticed the new record for concurrent players online that this weekend brought? I sure did ;)

This heist was some of the best publicity the game ever received, largely due to the wide coverage it has had. Most of the readership of New Scientist hasn't heard of the heist or EVE, I'd wager, so I think that it's very much relevant still. ----

..and how do you know they didn't steal two Apocs as part of the heist?
Those aren't normal Apocalypses, nor Navy Issue Apocalypses, but Imperial Apocalypses, the only two ingame. Istvaan had one already, and Arenis bought his with a loan from Mirial (which he obviously didn't repay), as far as I know.
Sorry, but you're wrong... Being someone who was once in possession of an Imperial Apocalypse, I keep tabs of their whereabouts. Tyrrax Thorrk is in possession of the only remaining Imperial Apocalypse that is left ingame, that I am aware of. I heard Istaavan had one but lost it in pure blind, but I CAN GUARANTEE that he did not have 2 Imperial Apocalypses.
I recall at the time, GHSC nabbed a Imperial Armageddon as well.
Perhaps Istavaan can clarify this for us, but I'm almost certain I'm right...

Istvaan has not lost his Imperial Issue Apocalypse. I dunno where you got that Pure Blind story, but I assure you it's completely and utterly false.
There are still two in existence.
Regarding that Imperial Issue Armageddon, GH-SC did indeed steal it for me. Hijacked

Oh well I was correct about the part where I said that Istavaan didn't ever have 2 Impocs...
In The Beginning, There were 4 Impocs;
Grikl was a nub and lost his Here
Ecliptical lost his in a SA Versus CA Fleet Battle
Blackviper felt sorry for Ecliptical, and since he never played the game, gave his Impoc to Ecliptical... Who sold it to Elisium Dammar, who sold it to me, who got it back off me, who sold it to Tyrrax.
Kileak had the last remaining Impoc, and this must be the one Instavaan has now... But as I stated earlier Istaavan does not have two...

That fan-fiction was a good read, Trevedian. Cheers... I enjoyed that :)
For the record, it's the couple of fantastic capers I've heard of over the years that have brought me to EVE. The one mentioned by the NS article being one of them.

IIRC his real name appears in the credits at the back of Eve's manual.
Its not that this heist has gotten old, its that people ahve becoem lazy, and not topped it. Thats what we need. Someone needs to beat the old record for infamay. --------------

Indeed, but the situation becomes decidedly more complex when you're dealing with ingame items that have an actual market and value outside of the game itself. The loss of a $1,000 item, whether it was real or virtual, is certainly cause for real life angst. I think the issue that will become the crux and finally deciding factor in these questions isn't the divider between real life and "game life", but the question of ownership. Does the player have any real ownership claim to their characters inventory? It challenges the prevailing attitude that possession primarily equates to ownership, but I'd have to say that the player does *not* have any ownership over inventory in question. If they don't have any ownership, then the proper owner (if ownership can be claimed) would have to be the company providing the game, which still has the item in it's possession (simply assigned to another character).
I don't think the fact that some ingame items have RL value make legitimate ingame activity, crimes in RL. The $1000 value attached to an ingame item is calculated based on all sorts of factors like rarity of the item... how good it looks... how good it is etc... and how well your ownership rights are protected.
People should fork out RL money to purchase virtual items with full knowledge that what they are buying is the right to have the item transferred into their cargo hold... and not the right to compel CCP/the police/the universe to ensure that it remains in their possession under any and all circumstances of the victim-owner's choice.
Perhaps if people were more keenly aware of this, they wouldn't fork out so much RL money for imaginary objects. What the GHSC did definitely made many more people aware of the extent of their ownership rights over ingame property... and thus they performed a necessary community service :)

This article raises an interesting point - regardless of what the MMORG operators put in their rules - virutal objects now have RL value.
99.99% of the MMORG population - faced with a major in game theft - will simply scream at their computers and then get on with life, or will try to seek vengence inside the game, but its the 0.01% who are the scary ones.
If the $880,000,000.00 RL value of the market in MMORG item sales is true, how long until someone who ripped of $$$$$ worth of virtual property gets a knock at the door at 1.00am.
That's the problem with MMORGs, you have no idea who you are really dealing with.

Egad, that picture of Istvaan.....
I've seen much better of you. Did you give them that?
I thought I looked hot in that picture. Here's the three pictures I sent them.
As for the death threats, I think 8 came by email and one by phone. I didn't really follow up on them since I figured people were just angry, and frankly because we deserve to die ;p
Those pics arent bad.
But what about the one with the dog and the cokain on your side table?
