Scans?
I'm not a subscriber to NewScientist. So, how does an article like this make it into one of these mags, I mean, why is it featured?

Not really sure why I'm bothering, but Ubiqua Seraph is alive and well despite the damage done by GH-SC. _______________________

It's an article about virtual crime crossing over into the real world. Though what I like is that Istvaan is painted as the more honorable of the people mentioned.
Though the big question, is this likely to attract more gamers? - Pain is a way of knowing yourself; Death is the ultimate in self-discovery.

All I can say is WOW (dont mean the game) I thought at the time that was the coolest, thing to happen to Eve-online. And by the looks of it, and the fact that is the fourth time I've read about it, it was.
GHSC did good on that one. Now to make sure your not hanging around me anywhere......
Dont mind me I am just trying to catch up to DS and HK on the boards.... |

Don't have them on me right now, but one thing they changed is the caption for the big screenshot they included; they said we stole those ships, whereas I just gave them the screenshot as an example of Eve's visuals.
No biggie ;p

Look at the MMO Population Graph on page 41. It says EVE has had a slightly declining 800,000 players since release! That's a load of horse hocky! How did they do that when CCP is practically the only MMO company that released subscription numbers? I'm pretty sure the whole thing is made up
Now granted, if they used the real numbers, EVE would barely show up on that chart. But the only games they showed as increasing are WOW and FFXI.

It might be a stacked chart, in which case EVE's section looks a little thin.

Quote: Re: "Just a Game?"
I am a memebr of the EVE Online community, and was pleased to see my game making it onto the pages on NS, but noticed some errors. Firstly, EVE is not a "Space Piracy" game as it was quoted in the 5th column - it is a world where you can do almost anything within the constraints of the engine - piracy is but an aspect. Secondly, you misspelt "Istvaan" (as Istvaal) immediately below his thumbnail picture. The third error was in stating that the screenshot of spaceships and a space station were involved in a heist - he merely gave this as an example of the games graphics. The largest error was in the table-graphic on the penultimate page, that apparently states eve has roughly 800,000 players, and has recently had its population drop - CCP is one of the few game developers to properly publish its player figures, and placed it at roughly 130,000 subscribers when they last informed us.
Apart from these errors, the article was a good read, and I hope the author continues to send in material.
Thankyou
was a tiny box (think 100x80 =P), so i didnt notice the spell mistakes etc. that sound fair nuff to you lot?

I wouldn't quite say that the caption of the picture of the Apocs is an error. I would call it editor's prerogative. Yah, they had no clue what the were placing in there, but it doesn't mislead the audience with false information. Besides, it looks nice.
..and how do you know they didn't steal two Apocs as part of the heist?
It amazes me that over a year later this story is still making headlines.
