Wait, you mean like the fitting slots that are needed to make the drone weapon platform shine as a primary platform, like drone damage amps, tracking links, drone control units for carriers, and drone range extenders for subcaps?

Maybe have all drones follow you in warp, not just fighters.
Then you don't have to sit and wait while your Ogre II's waddle their way back you can just warp to the next location and continue.
Could also have them follow targets that warp off.
I actually kinda like the idea of having a drone fitting panel, maybe on the side of the regular fitting panel that lets you use modules to customize your drones with abilities. Damage, range, and tracking should still be ship fittings, but some other small changes like faster return speed, remote rep for other drones (drone A takes a hit, drone B stops shooting target to rep drone A), and other things like that.

Also OP, this is a very lame idea. Considering how drone control range can be changed, how do you plan to implement that into the MJD for your drones? Or would it be based on the unbonused value of your ship? but then what's the point in doing that at all?
Sounds to me like you need to train your drone nav skills up a bit.
