I'm a boring player, mostly AFK mining, do some cosmic anomalies and keep the skill queue ticking along.
I'm pretty much solo.
Long term I'm thinking of owning a player owned station.
However currently they don't look very realistic for a solo player.
Will that change with the future updates to industry and player owned stations?
I'm struggling to understand the future implications for solo owners of stations.

This is a multiplayer game, so if you play solo you have to understand that your needs aren't exactly top priority. |

A player owned structure is easily owned solo, I've generally had 2 or 3 for the last 3 years.
The best method of "owning" a station for the solo player is to rent one.
A freeport in EVE is unworkable unless you want the freeforall on the undock, it -will- be infested with people who are red to each other and you and a freeport lets them dock, reship etc even if you do kill them, so you'll be doing endless rights management, and inevitably someone will come to kick you out (even chribba eventually got kicked out).
If you rent, you have docking rights and blues, and your market for your station is then a subset of EVE players that won't shoot each other, which means piracy is intermittent, and killing a player gives temporary relief, since they have to go somewhere else for their clone and reship and you can actually seed up a market. Bearing in mind that all null markets lack customer depth.
In general I like living out of a pos - so I rent stationless - I just store my valuables in a nearby station.
I don't actually like the stuck inside with no windows stations, I only use them as storage for valuables - the POS idea itself is great, its only its archaic management code that makes them seem unfriendly). I can keep a ratting ship in the pos, and I can still run probes (yes that works), and I can d-scan from within the bubble, and I can yank a taranis or sabre out of the ship maint hanger to kill filthy little hobbitses in their filthy thieving hacking boatses. |

If you weren't so AFK, you could own several POSes. This is as nice as I get. Best quote ever https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=4137165#post4137165 |

I've never considered MMOs to be multi-player games in the sense of team play.
From what I've seen most MMO players spend most of their time doing solo activities.
But it is nice to have the buzz of a crowd around, mostly because they add random moments, and those random moments are what no game developer can add.
I love MMOs, just don't have a lot of chunks of time, so AFK is perfect for me. ~ ~~ Thinking inside Schrodinger's sandbox. ~~ ~ |

The last time someone accused me of being an evil AFKer was in Local chat, and because I didn't respond he sacrificed his Catalyst to Concordia.
Irony was that I was chatting about him simultaneously, but in another chat.
I think the people who created AFKing as a crime are the same ones who want any excuse to get an easy kill.
Forgive me, but staring at warp animations or asteroids being mined isn't the most exciting thing.
And it's not fun watching, just in case someone might try to kill me.
Anyhow I want to try research out and it seems having a player station is the way to go.
Or will that change in the near future? ~ ~~ Thinking inside Schrodinger's sandbox. ~~ ~ |

Standing requirements are being removed in the summer update. This is a bigger deal for large corps than individual players but it should allow you to put down a POS just about anywhere you might want. In terms of research (and I know jack about research), I think you're going to have to put your BPOs in the POS itself, so if it gets attacked and reinforced while you aren't online you'll have a problem. |

I have a pos for research now, but I am not sure whether I'll need it after the next big patch, unless I decide to own all of another races hull bpos at any rate, and then the there is the question of increased exposure to risk after the patch.
I finished my large rig me research a while back (have the full set done), and the other thing I do with the pos - copying bpos for invention or for moving to nullsec for building, will probably be time and cost effective from stations and exposed to bpo loss risk from a pos after the patch.

You should post that POS in a secluded space, which there isn't much anymore over the moons. Anchor it deadspace and be responsible for the fuel and all defense...however your POS is toast if a corp wants to rid a random out of the system via wardec.
This also happens with custom offices.
You're going to waste ISK or get wrecked sometime down the road, beware. Use a mobile depot's if you can't establish or replace a POS. Sounds like you should join some corp for guidance, really. - If violence does not solve your problem, you may not have used enough of it. |

Hey OP,
I might be off topic but I think you should be aware that I started a community living in 0.0 npc null full of people who are blue to one another and help each other out, there is no obligation to do anything. Please have a look at the Invitation to 0.0 thread on GD.
I have played the game solo for a number of years and always felt there was something missing from my game. I now enjoy the social aspect of the game. It's great having people to work with and the fact that no one here is forcing anyone to do anything is a good thing.
If you joined our community of blues then we would help you to defend your pos, come down to our 0.0 home and do your thing. Hub Zero is full of bitter vets and stubborn people and we have all found a way to get on here.
With regard to the changes that CCP made, I would advise people to flow with it. I could have been angry about CCP reducing the amount of minerals refined from belt ratting loot but instead I saddled up a venture and am now doing occasional mining.

"Station" is ambiguous. Do you mean a station as in one of these, where you can dock, trade, etc? Or do you mean one of these?
The former is what is called a "station" in NPC space, and formally called an "outpost" when it's player-owned. It requires being an alliance that owns null-sec space and a whole lot of resources. By some napkin math, I approximate it would be upwards of 30 billion ISK or so, just in material resources. I could be wrong, the number feels low. So, in short, no, you will not be able to own one of these playing solo. A whole alliance is supposed to get organized and work together to deploy one of these.
The latter is called a "starbase", or "player owned starbase", or most commonly, POS. You can set one of these up at almost any moon in Eve, and they are not particularly expensive to run. There are multiple sizes, and getting the smallest one set up costs somewhere around 60-70 mil ISK, plus maintenance (fuel, and a tax if placed in hisec or some lowsec). POSes are very achievable for small corps, and somewhat difficult but definitely possible for solo players. You can read up more on them here: https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Starbase ISD LackOfFaith Commander Community Communication Liaisons (CCLs) Interstellar Services Department I do not respond to Eve Mail or anything other than the forums. |

Its possible if you're rather well off with a crapton of money to spend on it regularly as well as having a lot of alts and if you can find somewhere that will let you own your own system, likely via renting.
so yes its possible, but not very feasible. |

I too am a boring solo player. What Ive found is that EVE isnt made for solo players. I cant carve out a small piece of space for myself. My own station, etc. The logistics for those things involve many players working together.
