I have an indy to ship ore so cargo space on the mining ship would not be a prob. I'm looking for the FASTEST mining frigate...would the Incursus be it? I know the probe or imicus are probably better "overall" mining ships with greater cargo hold etc, but seeing as the Incursus can wield and extra miner1, would the Incursus be better for SPEED mining? (considering I only have access to miner1s and low end mining drones)..thanks

With the latest nerf's to CPU co-processors i don't think you'll have enough CPU to fit 3 mining lasers.
3 mining lasers = 180cpu
inurcus = 125cpu
+ electronics lvl4 = 150cpu
+ co-processor = 160cpu
+ co-processor = 171cpu
i believe the inurcus only has 2 low slots - so you would only have 171cpu which isnt enough. the only frigate with 3 turret points that can fit 3 mining lasers is the punisher (with 3 or 4 co-processors fitted).
you could try the imicus, fit this with 2 mining lasers and 2 harvestor mining drones (should be enough drone space if i remember correctly), and you'd have at least 20 more units per minute than having 3 lasers.

Sweet thanks...you might have just saved me 200k odd! =)
If what you say is true i'll probably go for the imicus and spend the rest of the cash on drones and whatnot.

Imicus has 250 drone space, would 5 basic mining drones be quicker than 2 haveys?
(I think harveys take up 100 drone space! , but I know basic mining drones take 50 )

5 basic drones gather 50m¦ per cycle
2 harvs + 1 basic gather 70m¦ per cycle
5 standard mining drones gather 75m¦ per cycle.
So you're better off without harvs in an imicus as long as you can afford standard mning drones or better.
If you can afford 5 advanced or elite mining drones, mothball the imicus and buy a cruiser.

why don't you take navitas it gets 5% mining speed per lvl? you would need some electronic skill or co processor.

The Navitas can fit two XeCl's on it with no needed extra CPU, each bringing in 47 ore each cycle then add to that your mining skills and bring Gallente Frigate to lvl 4 for the 5% per lvl mining speed the Navitas gives you for an added 20% on top of it all. You can also throw in a couple of mining drones or one Harvestor mining drone to boot.
You will be bringing in lots of ore really fast with this little noob set up that you just can't beat!

well the burst has slightly more speed, slightly more cargo and costs less (still has the 5%/level mining yield bonus) :D so its a teeny bit more efficient as a pure miner than the navitas :) but it of course is minmater ..

I used and Incursus with three mining lasers and two basic mining drones. A microprocessor alone won't give you the boost to mount the thrid laser but the Electronics skills required for the co-proc along with it just barely will. Hope that helps

I have tried out the Navitas for mining.
I have come to the conclusion that its not a very good ship for a nOOb
In order to fill the two hi slots with miners I had to run one EP-S Gauss (less cpu) and one miner 1. To fit a survey scanner I had to fit a basic co-processor, leaving one lo slot for any thing I wanted (as long as it didn't use CPU or power)
With 2 basic minering drones and the EP-S & Miner 1
I was able to pull 215m^3 per cycle. 
(With mining lvl 3 and mining drone lvl 2)
So in order to make it a nice miner you would need electronics skill, most nOObs don't start with that.
On to the next ship! Incursus  (probably not enough CPU to run 3 miner 1's  )
