Brothers and sisters, it is my pleasure again to talk to you as the representative for the Namtz'aar K'in alliance command, and to give you the war situation update some of you have already written to us to ask.
Since our last update, many things have changed in our situation. The Amarrs' "lessons war" is almost forgotten, though technically still in effect, while we face another threat much closer to home. A pirate organization called "Fury Corporation" has declared a war on us, and we have some reasons to suspect this is backed by a third party. With that war, we have been placed under extreme pressure, but nevertheless the heart of the alliance remains strong.
In the beginning of the second week of this war, a FUCO representative contacted our leadership, with the flat out offer to pull the declaration if we pay them in ISK. Needless to say, a quick alliance poll unanimously rejected this offer, and our leaders politely declined.
Know this, brothers and sisters: we do not negotiate with terrorists and murderers, be they Amarr, pirates, or any new kind of darkness. If that means our beloved Molden Heath is turned into a warzone, so be it. War is preferred to oppression, as death is preferred to slavery. Alone or with allies, we will fight this new threat who would not only close access tribal lands in zero security, but also seeks to extend their reign of terror to Republic space.
Darkness grows all around us, but this war is not the darkness. It is just a storm, a wind that blows away what is dead and withered and breaths new life to the fire that burns bright. We fight, we learn, we adapt.
We fight for the Matari people, forever.

Indeed this is sad news to recieve, but as others have said, stay the course and never give up.
You all have managed to survive the storm thus far, not an easy feat, so just continue doing what you do best.

Well it seems that the 1st PG has retracted, or refused to pay for, the war.
One less aggravation... and according to your reports the lessor of the two.
Good Luck to the Kin.

Indeed, I can confirm that soon after I wrote the above, we received formal notice of 1st Praetorian Guard war being over.
Never worry, we will stay true.

This being the correct interpretation if you'd know how to read CONCORD messages. All 'hard' objectives were met on the first night of the war. We would have liked to make better use of the money we already had to waste for the CONCORD bureaucrats but it wasn't to be partially due to unforseeable personell shortages and partially due to the fcat that NMTZ learned faster than expected to rapidly assemble response swarms.
As I'll be planetbound for a couple of days I regret to inform you that I won't be able to react to the expected responses.

Wrong. We achieved the set objectives and just don't see the need to pay 100 million weekly as NMTZ is mainly operating in Molden Heath, which isn't quite the area we usually operate in . The concept may be alien to you but we don't fight our wars for 'entertainment' purposes.

Well fought. It looks like this was indeed the "Lessons War". We have learned that in the sustained heat of war, as opposed to the flash in the pan of suprise attacks, that good will triumph over evil.

Warmongers and mass murderers are "good" now?
Of course, I would point out that the 1pg accomplished every single goal for the war easily in the time it fought.
Dropping a war in which you have accomplished every objective, is hardly what I would call a defeat.
Those who attacked and killed Amarrian Convoys met Amarrian Justice. The Matari attacking Amarr Convoys were killed and the pathetic organisation is now back in Matari space fighting pirates with a rather bloody nose from a single small Amarrian Naval Unit.
If the Matari call that a victory, I would hate to see what they consider a defeat.

Wow, didn't see that coming. Warmongers? it was 1PG who went out of their way to provoke the Republic loyalists, it was also 1PG that declared war. Mass murder? the Amarr murder thousands of people a day in slave camps throughout the Empire.
Paint this "tactical surrender" as anything you like but only the Amarr will fall for it in the end.

Thrace every time you post the opinion of all concerning the intellectual capability of the Minmatar drop. One more time in baby words we will state this and then drop the matter.
The war was began with a specific set of goals laid out. On day one the goals where accomplished completely and even exceeded. During the intervening time those goals have remained accomplished and thus we achieved victory.
With our goals accomplished and no sign of them being undone we have no reason to continue the war and thus we end it. This is no surrender since our goals where the ones accomplished. This means we have won the war we set out to win and have decided that once won there is no reason to rub it in.

may we know what those goals were?
In my limited understanding most of the time the "winner" of a war is the one who does not have to capitulate. Often it is an economic failure that forces the hand of one side, such as they have lost so many ships they can not go on or have been bankrupted by war cost and logistics. also there is moral failure, where in the war is so devastating most of the people leave and thus the war target is so broken they are but a former shell of them selves.
so far Gradient doesn't seem to have lost its economy, or its membership, and did not retract or recant any statements it made or change any course actions or operational goals it had.
so I ask you, in genuine curiosity and not with an attempt to impugn the potency of 1PG, what goal did you accomplish that dictates a success in your opinion?
thank you in advance for your time.

Please forgive me for going to OOC on this board which I hate to do but the facts of this war retraction have already become significantly misrepresented and need to be corrected.
The retraction was for one simple reason alone, NMTZ declined to accept our request to make the war mutual and we had no intention of paying 100 million ISK or more a week to fight what was supposed to be an RP enemy. We have been at war with U'K and it's predecessors for years. Those wars have always been mutual. We expected this one to be as well.
As soon as we determined NMTZ would not sign up for an ongoing RP war we decided to let it run out. Nothing more or less.
Our goal was to find an additional RP enemy not rub someone's nose in the dirt with a typical "you suck" war. It was out of respect to that goal we've never actually posted the 1PG kill ratio over NMTZ. We assumed NMTZ would appreciate that but if anyone doubts 1PG's performance to date we can correct that.
I personally would still prefer that step not be taken because the tendency is to immediately start flaming in this game and on this board.
So that's it...nothing to it beyond we as a small corp won't pay for an RP war against an alliance. If NMTZ would like to take the step U'K always has and make the war mutual we would be happy to accept.
I would remind Millis Sarum and others in 1PG of the standing orders restricting all communications on the NMTZ war to command staff personnel only.
Go tell the Spartans, stranger passing by, That here, obedient to their laws, we lie. |

What a load of propagandist nonsense. You could have asked NMTZ for a mutual war before you started the war. It was fairly obvious that you wouldn't sustain the war efforts. NMTZ will fight wars on it's own terms, I'm sure.
From the second day till the last day of war you barely managed a kill. You came out with a bang on Galnet only to scamper back to the Bleak Lands with a whimper. That was about the tamest war I ever witnessed.
(No need to go OOC really)
So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong and to strike at what is weak. |

Edited by: Elsebeth Rhiannon on 22/05/2006 15:12:50 (( OOC: as far as I was aware, a mutual war was never asked for, so I must assume this went through alliance command higher than me.
If it had been gone through me, though, I would have explained that Gradient, ICly, at this time, is not declaring wars on the Amarr (if you want the reasoning, ask IC ;)) and that we will vote against a mutual war in NMTZ if it comes up. I am sorry if there was a misunderstanding about this and a mutual war was expected - for me an "RP war" does not necessarily read as "mutual". CONCORD exists IC, CONCORD fees exist IC, etc.
Apologies for any misunderstandings. We had fun while it lasted, and with the tightening relations between nation states, who knows what happens in the future.
I will not answer any obvious OOC ICly, though I agree with Aodha that this could be IC. Neither will I comment ICly before the apparent OOC bad feelings are resolved, and I will take the resolving off the forums. Moderators, delete as necessary. My apologies for the disruption of normal communications. ;) ))

A noble endeavor but one that was plainly obvious (See one of my recent articles at EG). The trouble with this endeavor is the means of communicating this intention.
And my comment regarding the ending of the war was meant not to offend but to reflect the lack of clarity on my side. After all... only people in the organisations in question get the mail from CONCORD. I just have means of knowing that it was retracted.
Oh and since the bait has been dangled repeatedly: May someone ask what these completed objectives were?

The goals I heard the Amarr state were that this was a short war to 1) afflict revenge on one now famous pilot Ogmund of clan Pritahkar, and 2) drive NMTZ "out of Devoid".
First can be counted as moderately succesful; our operations, however, have not been affected by this war.

Sad to see the fact that NMTZ doesnt tell the whole truth.
It is our understanding that NMTZ are holding a son of a very important amarr person captive. They are not willing to admit it as they claim to be "freedom fighters" but now are holding a prisoner of their own.
The war will least until that missing person is found of every member of NMTZ alliance is dead or left NMTZ alliance as a mark that they dont want to be any part of that terrorist organization.
next time our peace offer will not bee so modest.

The above from our enemy are simple lies.
When we have been in contact with the enemy, nothing like this has ever been mentioned. Any negotiations or inquiries about any missing person, Amarr or otherwise, have not been conducted by FUCO with NMTZ. Neither is the alliance holding anyone prisoner at this time.
If I am mistaken and something like this is indeed behind your war declaration, please contact myself or the alliance command, and we will try and find out what this is about. Otherwise, stop trying to turn your unwarranted attack on Matari lands to something more political than greed and terror.
