Had the most impact on your life?
For me, it has to be Doom. This was the first game that truly made me say "HOLY ****!" Never before had a game actually had an impact on my life while not playing it. I'd hear sounds and think, "Oh, ****! A dog!" Plus, never before had I spent so much time playing any single game. This one simply overtook my life. Thankfully, I was in college at the time, so who cares. I mean, I don't know how many times I played through the original or the follow-ups, continuously killing demons. And this was before multiplayer was really an option (aside from the guys in one dorm who made their own network just to play Doom).
The only other ones to come close were Civ2 ("Damn, why's it so bright in here? Oh, crap, that's the sun!), Eve (duh) and Morrowind (I don't yet own Oblivion).

For me it was Knight Lore on the spectrum. At the time amazing fx and as i was a kid it was the only game that got my dad intrested and would play it as well. The only other game that comes close was the first streetfighter 2 on the snes.I had to buy an import famicon to play it but i wasted many months honing my skills on that game. But i could destroy a player within seconds .
As for recent games nothing really exites me as much as when i was younger the rush of getting a new game and not being able to wait to play it.

Quake 1 : Team Fortress, the game that really got me into online gaming.
I played it on a 56k modem when that was the bestest thing around if you couldnt afford ISDN. On Wireplay. Anyone remember Wireplay? BT's dialup gaming service. 1p a minute. My mum used to kick me off after an hour and shout at me when the phone bill came in. Still, ever since I played it using Roger Wilco and Battlecom, I was hooked on team games.
And an honourable mention to Everquest, the first game to truly show me (and the rest of the world) what addiciton really meant. And the game that spawned the real MMORPG genre, which we all know and love.

Everquest. No... not EQ2. The pre-PoP EverQuest, and actually... if it weren't for PoK... PoP woulda been a good expansion too, but... that game is what turned me into the MMO addict I am today. --- --- --- ---

I still love Command & Conquer to this day. (Generals is OK, but imo is not Command & Conquer)

Gotta be the original Elite on the BBC Micro B. I used to think those vector graphics were so swish. Kinda sad now when you compare it to whats on offer these days but back then it was a technical marvel. Not to mention the fact they were the first people to use self generating procedural game worlds which is how they fit such a huge experience onto a single floppy. Truely amazing.

Edited by: Asael on 22/05/2006 17:30:44 The Command and Conquer: Red Alert Windows 95 Demo from my dad's 'PU' Cd's. It was the first real game that i installed on my very first computer when i was 11 orso, and i must have played the soviet mission for 25 times in a row, i was hooked. But that even went to a higher level when i bought my very first Command and Conquer game(Tiberian sun) a few months later, followed quickly by a full box set of RA1 including expansions
The Command and Conquer games have changed my live. But the Civilization series is a very close second.
Oh, and Generals is a pretty decent game, but it doesnt have the right to bear the Command and Conquer title. ______________________________

right now its just given me the new message of the week saying; -
"If you lose something big, pretend pirates took it"
but really, theres two. "the" game would have to be Final Fantasy VII. it defined me playing anything classed as an "RPG".
the most atmospheric, brown-pants inducing game ever, and the ONLY game i have ever experienced that classed itself as a "scary" game would be Silent Hill 2 (well, the silent hill series in general, but 2 is the best). ive played an incredible amount of "scary" games and silent hill are the ONLY ones that actually do it. that inludes crap like resident evil and those stupid FMV RPGs that were rampant about 10 years ago.

Eve.
If your talking impact, last few years have been one hell of a rollercoaster.
My life is completely different now to what it was before i joined.

Command And Conquer Dos version had the most impact in my life. And CnC 95 version was the first game I played online ever.
I bow to almighty Kane. I salute WS, I crap on EA, and keep on crapping on EA until a good CnC game comes out (I even wonder if CnC3 will be good..)
After that, yeah, Doom is the first FPS I played. Sigh, today's games is never comparable to the classic games. Makes you want the time to stop and keep playing it. ----------------------------------- Please call me a Newbie that follows instructions, read to learn and using common sense.
