Yes, I know EVE isn't supposed to simulate absolute realism. If it did, we would have no top speed to ships, we could turn around while still continuing in the same direction, etc etc. Maybe I'm the only one that reads the EVE chronicles and storyline behind the game, maybe I'm the only one that cares, but I tend to nitpick about stuff that doesn't make sense from a roleplay perspective.
your not the only one
And you two are not the only two. I love the lore behind the game. Its not all perfect, thats for sure, but it makes me feel more of a part of the world. I wish more people would fill in their "bio" section with a backstory. For me, the game is more then just a pvp terminal.
It is, however, a game, and one that must be balanced and try to set a varied yet level playing field. I wish everything in game would make a coherent picture, but as someone above said, (paraphrasing) "balance > rp". Some on the forums are quick to judge CCP, but personally I aplaude them for giving the player base so much insight in to their game mechanics via revealing the numbers like this. Its one of the reasons I have stuck with them and with EVE.
I think that most everyone agrees here that any change to ship stats would have to be compensated by an adjustment of other ship stats to not unbalance Caldari ships. It would be silly to ask for anything else. I am not saying that everyone agrees that the status quo ship performance is ok, as it seems to be that anyone who flys Caldari ships would love faster alignment and anyone who doesn't fly Caldari ships balks at a beneficial change to what is seen as an already out of balance race.
The origional changes are before my time, so I can't comment on them, but if that was the true and the only reason behind the changes, perhaps it is time to re-evaluate the decision? Not automatically change it, but just re-evaulate it's neccessity? Easier said then done, if many ship bonuses have changed since then.

(P.S. For you density and atomic weight people, I seem to remember that tritanium is the base of all space construction. If that is the case, we really don't know the atomic weight of it, or what elements makes it up. My guess its CCPium.)
