I was saying, it's difficult to judge the person who did this without the facts, even though we can all hate the act and see permanent ban as the appropriate outcome.

People do stupid and dumb things. Even people who later regret their actions. Calling the person scum, etc. doesn't serve much purpose.

The typical reaction would be to abruptly close ranks and keep repeating the official alliance line, whatever it might be, and to troll anyone who pointed out that they had just been screaming for the culprits blood. There might be an apology trotted out and the person involved might quietly be demoted or tossed from the alliance.

This would not even be unique to goons. Just about every alliance in game more or less responds the same way.

It would be hilarious if it was though. I'd love to watch all of them suddenly backpedal when their bosses jerk the leash.

One of the lovely young ladies who worked the Fanfest venue felt the need to write a long complimentary note on Facebook about the guests at Fanfest. Here are some translated bits from the note:

"The compliment of the week goes to the players of EVE Online, especially those who attended the Fanfest at Harpa.

I was working in Harpa this weekend like so many other weekends and was so tremendously pleased with the guests that I feel compelled to spread the happiness. There were around 2000 guests there who all have something to do with the computer game, EVE Online. My job this weekend was to work the bar and generally service this group of so called "computer nerds". I've done all kinds of events at Harpa, from small events with 30 people, conventions, large concerts up to 1000 man annual company fests. I've gotten very used to service Icelanders at these events and I believe I know exactly which groups are the easiest to work with, which are the rudest, the pushiest, the most fun, the funniest etc.

"It was great to work on, and be a part of, this impressive fest that CCP hosts. I have never (except at Fanfest 2012) had such a wonderful group of customers before. They stood in queues and nobody tried to push past anyone else to get service first. They said "thanks" and asked courteously for everything they needed. The traffic for food came in bursts so when things slowed down I left the service station to clean up and make the area nice again for the next burst. To my surprise there was nothing to clean up, the guests cleaned up after themselves, threw the wrappers in the garbage when they were done etc. The only thing for me to do was wipe a few crumbs off the tables.

"On the Saturday night we had the final party and probably had between 2-3000 people in the building. Even if people were drinking, things went pretty much the same regarding the neatness and courtesy. I sold a crazy amount of beer that night so I expected to have to do a lot of cleaning up, many times over the course of the evening, but that wasn't the case. The guests even returned empty cans when they bought new ones."

I also spoke with some of the bouncers at one of the bars filled to the brims with Fanfest guests the whole week. They came to me specifically to tell me that they were so happy with the clientele. They're not used to having the bar full of drunk people without things breaking, fights breaking out and some amount of troublemaking at least. They already looked forward to having you guys back next year.

I'm proud of my tribe and wanted to thank you guys for giving Fanfest a great reputation! :)

A lot of them it doesn't take a doctor to spot something seriously wrong with some of these people. The guys who neglect their families to play video games? Yeah, not good there, though the one who tried to have sex and run PvP at the same time still stands out in my mind. The two player suicides I know of? Might have had some problems. Cosmic Horror was in a relationship abusive enough that her boyfriend at the time had a friend of his beat her till she miscarried (she was close to where I am and I visited her at the hospital). There was a guy in aridia back in the day who would spam bestiality **** in local that made even Duckeye's worst transgressions against the Minmatar chat channel look mild. It was one of the few good things about BoB running up into Fountain did was I never saw him again.

Now, granted, this is over ten years, and just the worst offenders. But yeah.

I keep seeing this number being thrown around and I have to wonder why 90% of them never log in.

What has changed in the playerbase in a year, that would have caused such a difference ?
