I think the better approach would be to have Legion as a F2P game with the option of a subscription that offers you enough incentives for you to cough up the monthly fee. Pretty much what Planetside 2 is doing now.
Edit: Alternatively allow us to pay for it monthly with PLEX. |

A pay wall is almost as good as a subscription for keeping out the riffraff. If that happened, then CCP would still have to rely on microtransactions to make the game profitable. I thought we were against most forms of microtransactions here? er, plex.... Oh, pish-posh.... that game time that can be sold on the ingame market. Doesn't even count.
Ship skins? And I don't see any reasons why CCP would not do the same for Valkyrie or Legion. |

Penny Arcade roasted that practice with a rather scathing comic about the differences between paid subscriber and free player.... not many people do it anymore, after that.
Wargaming uses that business model for World of Tanks and continues to be highly successful, Gaijin Entertainment does the same with Star Conflict and War Thunder and I am sure that there are others that use that as their business model and who are successful.
If your game uses a F2P model, not only do you open the doors to a lot of gamers, you also provide a body count for people to have matches and so forth. Putting that behind a subscription wall would limit that significantly. |

Australians? As an Australian this is sadly true and its actually way more than the ammount quoted. Gods, and I thought us Yanks were getting boned on internet bills....
Oh, you get boned alright. You get boned good. Heh heh.

I think it's safe to say it's proof positive CCP should discourage players less than 16 years of age. Possibly they could also enforce a minimum IQ to play akin to the height requirement for many carnival rides. You must be this smart: 110+ To play this game. I envision a new type of IQ captcha that must be solved prior to creating an account. /quietly files patent application. EVE's ridiculous learning curve was supposed to be the IQ-level regulator. That obviously has been circumvented, considering some of the people we deal with on a daily basis.
You mean people like you? :p |

You mean people like you? :p There's a difference between stupid people, and insufferable bellends like me. I'm actually quite intelligent and not at all as pedantic, in real life. That's how I slipped my horrifying sense of humor past the learning curve. By being actually smart and taking it out on you lot.
My, that went down fast with hook, line and sinker. |
