Perhaps a dev/GM/someone at CCP could comment on how many Material Research slots were available previous to the lab patches, after and now. Presumably they have increased the ME slots over time as more players have joined eve and hence more players are doing research?
If they havent increased the slots then quite frankly thats ridiculous.

If I have a POS with an ME lab, am I able to set rental rates myslef for the public to use? Can anyone use my lab that has a bpo in system/constellation/region?

Sometimes it's just not necessary. You can do just as much by convoing a player, agreeing to collateral, and developing trust. CCP shouldn't have to code a new module everytime the player doesn't feel like speaking with another human being. That's what the high game, and in particular, scarcity of resources, is all about. There are certain finite properties in this game that are intended for people to collaborate upon. Not always in a slavish, or volunteeristic or long-term relationship either. This game has all the tools necessary for short term contracts and partnerships, and only relies on the sense of those involved to keep all parties protected.
As for the other poster bewailing POS excluding newbies, or at least those less wealthy.. that's kind of the point. People with less income are always needesd provided those individuals want more income. Seek out a use for people. It's far more satisfying and more profitable than trying to cover all your own bases eventually.
Lastly, the goal of the game is to constantly risk more, not less. Play the game to fullest and logging out becomes the least safe thing you can do.

EVE has reached his 30k now. What about double the research slots. A queue of 14days is just insane.
A year ago with 15kplayers it was a nice now/few days
poslab is "nice" but not afordable for everyone

I think the system as it is now is fine. These days everyone is able to use labs, and factorys, no matter where they are. There is no more holding slots, because now its just not possible. If you put in a big job just to hold a slot, that slot is taken no matter what. If you cancel the job, the slot is still taken.
If we were meant to have an unlimited number of facilitys, there would not be a limit. And now with POS's out, if you find the 1-2 days unacceptable, you can put one up.

One to two days? Are you crazy? Try ten to fourteen (even in lowsec). Starbases just aren't an option for new players, and are difficult even for experienced players to get placed in high sec.

If you guys need labs, give me a yell. I charge 3m per week per slot. Click my below link for further info, and I can provide up to 90% collateral on bpo's. My research system in 0.5 empire space is the largest public one in Eve. We are dealing with approximately 10-30b worth of bpo's a week.

Edited by: larann on 09/09/2006 11:24:51 i've resorted to just using alts to do it. i've moved all my bpo to low sec (safely by making insta's for the route first) then using the spare account slots to run 5 labs each. it took about 1.5 days to train for that picking the most suitable bloodline and skill choices, then just install and leave.
the low sec regions arent great for labs either, all ME and a lot of copy slots are taken up.
granted i have 3 accounts, and the 2 spare on all of them run labs, so thats 30 possible lab positions. i've found it to be the best way, and i guess other people do similar with however many alt slots they have left. two of the mains also run labs as well, and with the higher skills they have i tend to use them for the more time consuming bpo.
hi sec pos doesnt sound appealing, i know the cost of a small pos is only 15mil per week but the initial outlay doesnt warrant the hassle.
even so, the rareity of the slots is a PITA, but what can you do.
EDIT: as well as the fact that i cant get the standing needed to run a hi sec pos with an alt corp, i cant train for the hi end research skills cause of teh alts, and my attention span is kind of.. somthing

Get your alts to join C-R-A as researchers then

The fact that every noob in the game cant get as many research slots as they want is kind of the point. If you want to be able to research whenever you want join a corp with a pos. If you're not willing to put in that much effort then you shouldnt have the right to flood the market with researched bpcs.
On a side note my corp has a low sec small research pos with just a few guns and a couple days ago one of our enemy corps tried to take it down for us with a dread. It was a real bad day for that dread pilot. It only took 3 bs and an assortment of bc's and cruisers to kill him with no losses for us.
